Question more alternator questions

replacing alternator on my 81 911sc with one that has regulator inside. i understand the modifications that need to be done. my question is....the shroud around the alternator needs to have a cutout for the regulator/alt. to fit. Can i just cut the shroud or do i HAVE to purchase the new shroud. i'm concerned about mods and the effect on fan cooling.

I simply made the necessary cutout--it's not that big--with a Dremel tool. It's not like we're talking about turbine-precision cooling here, after all. If you wanted to be compulsive about it, you could seal the gap between regulator and shroud with high-temp silicone sealant, but I wouldn't bother.
