Seeking some advice for my 88 targa that will not start. Went to a pca drivers ed event for the day. I drove the car home and parked it for the night. A couple of days later I went to start the car and it is completely dead. I checked under the hood and noticed my very last fuse on the fuse box was missing (fog lights) and the fuse box piece was cracked off and hanging by the wires. I glued the box back together and purchased a new 5 amp fuse but the car is still completely dead. Checked the battery cables and everything looks good. Went to try to charge the battery and my charger will not event read that is is trying to charge or that the battery has any percent of charge left. Any suggestions on what I should look for next? I am not sure if something worked its way loose during the track runs or what. The car does have an old clifford alarm hooked up to it but I have never used it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks, ![]()

Well, id rip the battery out of the car and switch it out with your daily driver's battery and see what happens. You could have fried your battery somehow--possible bad voltage regulator.

Have you tried jump starting it?

What does it do when you turn the key, does anything (lights, radio etc) turn on? If you jump it, does it crank? Does it start? If it starts when you jump it, then take the battery to Pep Boys or Autozone and have them check it.
If it cranks but never starts, you need to dig deeper. Start with the easy to eliminate items like the battery. Try that and report back...

Thanks for the advice. I tried jump starting the car and it started right up. Turns out the glove box light had been left on and completely drained the battery to where it had no reading on the charger. I guess I noticed the broken fuse and was thinking something shorted out. Thanks again,
Mark

I'd still have the battery checked. A battery in good condition should have been able to power a glove box bulb for a week and still start the car. To be totally drained after a couple days would suggest to me either a bigger drain somewhere or a battery with limited capacity.

Most modern (smart) chargers will not put charge in a completely dead ( < 8 volts)battery. Can you jump it to give it a discharged reading?
