Post Tach not working properly.

Got a strange one here fellas, my tach and oel level will work some times after initial start up. After shut down and re-start it will not function at all. I need these gauges as you well know. Driving with that needle pointing to the red (for oil) makes me sick to my stomach (even though I check it every time I drive) Where do I begin on this one?

Thanks in advance,
Chris Metzger 76 911S

Absolutely, positively, you start by checking connections. Clean them, including and especially the ground connections (don't forget the ground strap going from the transmission 'nose' to the fire wall, since this grounds the entire engine electrics.

Mine does something sililar, but much stranger. Normally at work I leave the sunroof open to try and keep it somewhat cool. If I close it up, when I get to the really hot car, the tach won't work. Tapping on it doesn't do anything, but vibration seems to help. In order to get it working properly, I drive with 2 wheels on the lane bump dots for a few seconds, and it vibrates free and works fine.

So far it has only done this if I close up the car and it gets really hot inside.
