Brake cooling hose routing

Hey guys,

Is it possible to route a 3 inch brake cooling hose from the front bumper above the "A" arms and to the backing plate or does it have to go under the arms ?
I'm thinking it will get crushed but it hangs pretty low if running under the arms ...

I'm asking because i fitted my fiberglass bumper and my car will be on stands for another couple days !

Cheers
Phil

Phil,

It's possible, especially when you've got the aftermarket sway bar that does away with the obstructive connection on the A-arm. But the 3 in. hose is pretty big and can be crushed by the chassis tub under heavy suspension compression.

Are you using the "clamshell" style manifolds that run the hose across the A-arm diagonal brace? That's the best way to do it if you want to get air in from the front bumper. Under the A-arm is too low and gets torn off.

The only under A-arm install I like is the AJ-USA or NERP style that use the shop vac nozzle to scoop air from under the car. Then you don't need to run any hose to the front bumper. Our old MotoDelta warhorse ran the AJ style for years and worked just fine. No hassles with long run of hose up to the front bumper.

Kevin,

I answered my own question as i was concerned by the Tarret droplinks for the swaybars but it seems there's enough clearance for a three inch hose.
The AJ stuff doesn't work for me as i have 996TT brakes and i had to fabricate my own backing plate due to the 13.25 inch rotors !

I was previously using the fiberglass a arm scoops but they were 2.5 inch diameter and my new bumper had 3 inch holes for the brake ducts.Anyhow,it's only $90.00 dollars for 11ft of hose from HRP should i have to replace them every season ...

Cheers
Phil

No shortage of brakes on that car.....

If you have to replace, you can use the black hose instead of the silicone orange stuff. I've used the black for years and never encountered a problem with heat compromising the hose.

I'd suggest removing the screens from the brake ports in the bumper. It's hard enough to get air thru there. You don't want any obstruction that will reduce the velocity. The bend in the hose near the backing plate is already going to slow down the flow.

here's a shot of the clam shell fitting around the a arm kevin references. the black abs pipe is split and fits over a portion of the a arm.
