foggy guages

Newbie here, and recent Porsche purchaser. My guages fog up in humid weather then usually clear after 1hr or so. Are they not suppose to be sealed and if so is the seal gone in them or is this normal. My fuel guage is actually starting to cloud over from it. Any help is appreciated. thanks guys

Hmmm. Interested in the solution, as my fuel gage is also doing the same.

Ditto for me. Exact same problem with the same gauge.

Same here. I'm assuming that the nature of it being exposed the the trunk on one side, while the heated/cooled interior air has something to do with it.

Nope .... cool/moist air enters and hits the back of the gauges from the cowl vent. This air reacts with the hot oil line feeding the oil temp gauge and fogs things up.

It is one of the idiosyncrasies of the 911 design.

That sounds reasonable, but mine is fogged up from the start before the oil heats up. Then it clears after a while.

I believe the theory, but it would be easy to prove/ disprove...start your car with the AC off and go for a drive. See what happens.

Do a search. There must be twenty threads on this and how to deal with it. My answer? Send them to NH Speedometer for cleaning.

Shadetree, the oil temp sending unit is electric (as is all the other gages). But your right, it's a 911 thing!!

Cool temps, especially with the Targa top off, always results in foggy gauges for me...that is, in my climate (the NW) When I was down in California a month ago, it never fogged despite the sometime cool temps. I actually removed the guages over the winter, put them in an area above the wood stove (which is operating for say, four months solid) and in the spring reinstalled......no improvement. Cool temps= foggy guages for, say, the first half hour of driving, once temp equalization occurs, they clear up. Cheers

Question

Guages or gages can be helped with spell-check.

30-year old gauges with condensation may have a solution under "Search" or a trip to NH Speedo.

Yeah.....OK, LOL, sometimes the particular spelling of the "Queens" English doesn't jive with the spell check.... consequently, the thin red line doesn't always grab my attention. I'm not sure however that there is a permanent fix for this phenomenon in certain climates..... the gauges, not the spelling. Cheers

Volkswagen trick is to drill a hole in the case to allow them to breath from under the hood .......... just be certain to open the gauge first or know exactly were you are drilling .
