Date Stamped ?
OK, So I have got the wheels of my SC for refurbishing project and there are various markings on the back of the spokes, but the markings are different on one of the wheels. Somebody told me that they were date stamped when the car left the factory ..... now what I thought was a date on one wheel doesn't appear on the other three.
I know there are other codes or numbers on the wheels, but can anyone shed some light on them?? It looks like I may have to replace one wheel as the PO had a nice 'designer marking' engraved onto one rim by a kerbstone, after cleaning it up it is a little to deep for my liking, unless anyone knows if it can be repaired - In London ??? Thanks in advance for any help .... |

Daz, assuming you've got Fuchs wheels & not Cookie Cutters, the part number should be stamped on the rear of each wheel. I'm not 100% certain if they were still date-stamped in '82 but the Fuchs on my '69 911 are (MM/YY).
Depending on what size wheels you have, you should see numbers in this range:- 911 361 020 41 (7x15) 911 361 020 42 (8x15) 911 361 020 43 (6x16) 911 361 020 44 (7x16) 911 361 020 45 (8x16) These numbers are for versions with black centres & polished rims. As for recommendations for a London-based wheel refinisher, try Chris Talabi at Diamond Styling - he used to be in Willesden NW10 (0208 969 9690). Andy Boyle(UK) '69 911E |

Thanks Andy
I'll give diamond styling a call .... BTW I see you're in London, ever thought about going to the early 911's monthly meet in Richmond? As for the dates - I have to give two more wheels a good clean up, there maybe a faint marking somewhere. I do have a faint circular stamp on one wheel which I haven't seen on the others yet .... Anyone got ideas? |
