82 sc "clicks"

My 82 3.0l SC has a distinct and clear click noise it makes upon leaving from a dead stop. Coming from right rear wheel well. Axle seems to check out fine. Any ideas? The bushings "look" good to the untrained eye. Any ideas guys? Thanks

Mike

Drop the half shaft and see if it still clicks, could be the bearing starting to go.

Clicking while rolling may indicate a CV issue.

It could just be the fuel pump relay you're hearing...I use to be able to hear mine when I was idling, til my mechanic tinkered with the CIS.

Make sure it isn't just the 02 sensor counter.
I couldn't tell where mine was coming from and a local shop pulled the speedo and disconnected the counter. Took him all of about 15 seconds!

x2. Can you hear it from outside the car? If not, put your head close to the dash when rolling....you'll hear it.

Have a look at where the hand brake cable goes into the back plate.
The cable sits in a slot, and if not in all the way can catch and you hear a clicking on pull away

Well I am really stuck on it being a noise from the bearing or cv because it will also do it on a down shift sometimes. So do you guys think it might be a sensor, relay or brake cable? Great ideas and will check them all.... thats why I posted here cause you guys seem to know all kinds of stuff about these old girls! Thanks!

Similar issue here. Noise in the rear sounds metal to metal, like a axle, cv...

I repacked the CVs, checked bearings and each suspension point. My fear is a bad tbar.

Vincent

Is that your next step? Are you going to pull the torsion bars? Have done that on an old beetle but havent tried it on the Porsche. Is it big work?

Not big work, but you really should have it aligned after. My trailing arm bushings are ovals/old so at least that needs to be done. Not hard work, but another while you're in there....
