What video formats work best for you?
Since I post in-car video clips on my website, I'm interested in what video clip format is most widely used by Pelican users.

DivX AVI is best... it's slowly becoming new standard, insted of MPEG. Best compression to ...

Jack,
DivX is the best I've seen with respect to size/quality tradeoff. However, I note at http://www.divx.com/divx/index.php that there's no mention of a Mac encoder...?

I'm still on dial in computer hookup. I've learned to not even think of viewing video....I mean, wait 45 minutes to view 45 seconds of yellowbird at full chat? But the alternative? Yet another ding for "only" $40 per moon? Well, guess I'm "only x$ per moon" worn out. Oh? "No payments until 2002?" Why hell...sign me right up!

I don't know if one is inherently better, but amoung the samples you posted a couple weeks back from Laguna with both .avi and .mov formats, the .mov format was much clearer.
This is more likely a result of the settings you used. But the .mov did look good.

I'd have to vote for DIVX it is by far the best compromise between quality and size. It rivals some mpeg movies I've downloaded.

I've never been really satisifed with Apple's implementation of Quicktime (.mov) on Wintel platforms...it always seems way too much like an ill-fitting bandaid.
I have mostly been using Windows Media (.wmv) and RealVideo (.rm/.ram) formats in my latest playing around, largely because they are well integrated in with Adobe Premiere and MS Windows. I would also encode in MPEG if I wanted optimal platform compatibility (i.e. for our *nix buddies). DivX is probably the way to go in terms of performance/quality but it still seems to have a very "underground" flavor to it, and until Billy Gates and the other major powers recognize and support it, it will always be an underdog format regardless of technical superiority.

I'm not a big fan of the .mov files. However, as Clark said, the mov looks better. I would just prefer you use whatever format you can get to have the highest quality. That's all I really care about. By the way, great work on the current movies. Hopefully by the summer I'll have some of my own on the net.
