Making Muffler Straps

I recently obtained a Stock Leistriz Muffler for my car to replace the ANSA I have now. I knew I needed some straps to mount the muffler, but at roughly $40 (used)to over $100 (new), I figured I could make my own for much less.

I was able to obtain some scrap 1" wide Stainless steel strip material. I used some of it to to make 4 reinforcing Els. The rest I used for the strap itself.

I cut the 1" wide strip into 2 ea 23" long strips. I marked 1" from each end for the flange.

I then placed each end in my vice to bend the flange ends.

I then attached each of the Els to the flange ends with 2 pop rivets.

I then drilled a hole in each Flange end for the Muffler Strap retaining Bolts and Nuts.

Time spent - 2 hours.
Cost - $10 (mostly for the Stainless steel nuts and bolts).
Satisfaction of making it myself - Priceless (but I effectively paid myself $45/hour )

Nice job Harry! You get points for re-cycling too, but I think you gave yourself a terrific break on the price, I usually charge myself $60/hr (weekend rate). :-)

Garage
I used a HVAC duct hanger from the hardware store. I think I spent about $2 on it.
