Bye Bye ANSA ... Hello Stock Muffler

I just replaced my ANSA Exhaust with a stock muffler. Per those in the know, they tell me I may get back up to 5 hp!!!

After reading numerous posts on the trouble on removing the bolts that attach the muffler to the heat exchanger I was ready for a repeat of my session a few years back to renew my rear suspension.

Starting a few days ago, I sprayed PB Blaster twice a day on the nuts and tapped with a hammer. Today, I went to remove the muffler, with absolutely no drama, the bolts just unscrewed. I guess the person (an unknown PO) who installed the ANSA must have used something. thank you... Thank You ... THANK YOU!!!!

Using my homemade straps (Making Muffler Straps), the install was a breeze.

The car seems quieter but I have a small leak at the gasket. I guess I will need to disassemble and use some muffler paste to get a seal.

Before (ANSA):

After (Leistritz):

It does look better but I will miss the sound when I am at the track.

Hey, my wife likes the tail! Not to mention it is a place to park your brew while you are working...

It seems a small price to pay for keeping the peace.

Make certain that the flanges are flat before resorting to muffler paste,....you may need to do some filing.

I've seen a LOT of warped flanges over the years due to gross overtightening.

Congrats! Porsche got alot of things right on their cars from the get-go. So many of the aftermarket "upgrades" are just crap (mufflers and more).

Wow Harry.....I about fell out of my chair while reading this.
Good job man.
I've been wanting you to ditch that ANSA for years.
Maybe we should start looking for a single outlet sport exhaust if you'd like a little of the sound back.
I see them from time-to-time.
They look just like your Leistritz (sp?), but have a larger outlet and some less muffling on the inside.

Maybe we should just get you a tail-less decklid with cupholders?

I filed and filed but discovered a divit in one flange and a warp in the other.

Oh well, copper RTV and no leak. I hope I do not to disassemble for a while.
