First and foremost I'd like to thank all the great authors who wrote threads on repainting your Fuchs, great inspiration!
This DIY project only consisted of my 16x7's, my 8's are practically brand new and didn't want to touch them. First, I cleaned the wheels throughly using soap and water, towel dried and then I used compress air to blow off any dirt and dust. The materials I used: 3M 400 grit sandpaper (wet & dry sanding) 3M 600 grit sandpaper 3M 800 grit sandpaper Rust-oleum Satin black #7777 Rust-oleum Automotive Primer #2089 3M Blue painter's tape After cleaning-before preparation: ![]() Sanded using 400 & 600 grit sandpaper: ![]() ![]() Primed: ![]() ![]() At this point, the primer was sanded, the wheel was cleaned and then a few coats of paint was applied. The wheel dried over night before wet sanding. Wet sanded using 800 grit sandpaper: ![]() ![]() Re-taped and sprayed again-the result: ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm happy with the result, I thought they were going to turn out horribly. I know these Fuchs aren't Al reed or Harvey Weidman master pieces, but they will do for now! Anything I could of done differently?? Thanks for everyones help!!

Great result.
While I had the wheel off for balancing, I did a quick test run (30 minutes, no sanding) to see if I would like the inside black. Since I like it, I'll be using your list. Thanks J.J. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

JJ, the inside of the rim black looks nice, are you going to paint the inlay of your wheels as well?

So you would leave the lip as is. Actually since I like the B&W effect, the lip could be white. If someone is good with photoshop, feel free to try it... on this pic. Not to be picky but polish in the front and white in the black and we could do a survey ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hodgey, your right... I didn't think about that until later. I can carefully take a small flat head screw driver and scrape some of the paint out of the lug recesses.

Thanks, like I said-I'm happy with the result. I could have spent a little more time sanding, removing all the imperfections. When I'm ready for Perfection they will be sent to California.

hello fellow member
A good job done. Hours of hard work. Was the anodize removal done by you or done by previous owner etc. I decided on polishing the spokes but left the rough outer part bare. In the winter I spray WD40 all over the wheel to protect it from road salt pitting. Now you've given me an idea, looking at your primer sprayed picture. I may have to get my centres powder coated in a satin grey cos it looks good. Thanks for the idea. ![]() |

Sabeo & all
I think I'm going with your suggestion and paint the inlay as well. They have a some kind of varnish on them. Any body knows how to safely remove it. Thanks J.J. ![]()

JJ, I would first do some research on what type of coating or varnish is on the wheel... But, my guess would be to use aircraft paint remover or something along those lines (?).

I am going to start on mine. I’m glad others are using the same paint I have been using on some parts of my 84’. The 7777 satin black lays down perfectly. It’s great paint. And as my P Car is only a fair weather car it should hold up well on the Fuchs, as long as Prepped right. Thanks for this.
