Thanks for your reply to my query about the broken targa latches. COuld you give me a slightly more detailed explanation of how to remove the latches? For example, how do you remove the plastic surrounding the hole where you insert the tool to flip the latch? Thanks very much.

I'm afraid I will be of little help to you, but I'll do what I can. My '73T was a complete basket case. The targa top was as bad off as the rest of the car. The plastic parts you spoke of did not exist on this top. The latching mechanism was housed in the metal frame by a couple of allen head bolts. They practically fell out when you got the bolts loose. The idiot PO had shimmed them with pennys wrapped in tape - no lie. I took it all apart, had the machine work done, and had new handles made. And guess what - the "new" latches no longer needed pennys to shim them up. Funny how that works.
