Good Bay Are road to drive?

Took an extra day off of work, and am going on a drive tomorrow if the rain lets up any. Any recommendations on good roads to drive? I usually take the highway to Stinson Beach and then over Mt. Tamalpias, but that takes 3-6 hours from San Carlos. I was thinking Skyline drive, since I only have a 2-3 hours - I am certainly open to suggestions. Thanks!

Take skyline to rt 9. Then take rt 9 in either direction.

A great drive, just don't get too enthusiastic and fly off a cliff And watch for bikes.

I agree!

Go to Saratoga, start Highway 9. Get to Skyline (Hwy 35, I think) and head north. Take a left on either Highway 84 or Highway 92, and take Pacific Coast Highway Numero Uno. There are many (I repeat many) alternatives around this area...just look at a map and go exploring!

Like the previous poster stated, watch out for them damn bikes. And watch out for the occassional cop on Highway 35. It's too easy to go 70, 80, 90 on this hwy, and I see the occassional speed trap.

If you go up mt. tam, your literally driving right by my house. They have been re-paving the road which will be awesome when it's done. I love my back yard. One of the best roads to drive and set up your suspension. Oh yea, hiking and riding up tam isn't that bad also.

If you get to route 9, remember the old song...."george,george, george of the jungle WATCH OUT FOR THOSE TREES." Mt Diablo is a lot of fun too after dark when there aren't any cyclists around.

Try Mt Hamilton.. Rte 130 in East Side San Jose. Go to the LickObservatory at the top. If you really have time & a full tank, go down the other side(East) into no-mans-land til you reach I-5. Whole trip is around 5 hours but was a blast in my Beck. It is not well-traveled , even on the weekends & a beautiful ride. Peninsula hills are great to explore as well & hard to get too lost. Marin Headlands, Lucas Valley Road . Tiburon /China Camp ... All in Marin. All heavily traveled on weekends. Who has some good East Bay trips?

You could always try to re-create the "Bullit tour". Also agree that Marin Co. roads were designed with Porsches in mind.

tobluforu,

Any idea when they will finish paving between Bootjack and Mt. Home?

Living in Novato, I feel a need to experience this streach at least one time every week...really helps me tweek my suspension.

Cheers,

Joe

The rain put the whole paving on hold from what I was told by the fire dept. Their not sure when it will be done now. From 4 corners up about 4 miles, is awesome. Still not complete but very drivable. The only problem is that even though it's not raining right now, there's so much run off that the roads stay wet for ever. Oh well.
My sis and my best friend live in novato
Cheers!

Wet roads on Mt. Tam are just what I'm looking for .
Adds a lot of drama and excitement on every curve.

Great test of your survival skills too.

Joe
