Reviving an Optima
My boss is a muscle car guy and sometimes shares his Hot Rod with me. There are often some pretty good general DIY articles. One in the September issue on charging a dead Optima.
I scanned the article to a .pdf, but can't do an attachment in my post. Here's photo from the article that kind of sums it up. Optima recommends that you first hook a good battery in series to the dead one (pos to pos, neg to neg), then hook the good battery to the charger. Hot Rod claims that tried it multiple times successfully. They also claim it work on non-AGM batteries too. It's a 3 page article in the Sept issue, if you are near a magazine stand, you can read it in a few minutes. Thought it was a great tip and wanted to pass along. PS - sorry about the poor photo quality, but think you can still make it out ok. ![]()

that is in parallel NOT in series

IMHO, if you own an Optima or any AGM you MUST use a battery tender. If you use a battery tender these will last and last. Consumer reports recently rated the Diehard Platinum, Deka and Optima as the top 3 in group 34R which is what we use. Yes. Top 3 are all AGM's. However, Once you allow it to go dead... (i.e. you have not taken care of it...) your probably going to need to replace it. I keep mind on a permanent tender when its not being driven.

My Optima revival technique was to buy an Odyssey.
You can try this though. How to Recharge a Deeply-Discharged Optima Battery |

I have done the same thing on an Odyssey after leaving the interior light on. It does work. The battery hooked up to the charger alone was not working, by running the second, good battery, it charged fine. It will also hold the charge without issues.
