Brake Lights and Passenger Side Park Lights Stopped Working

Just pulled the 1989 930 into the garage tonight after a hour drive. When I parked the car with the lights on and the engine running, all of the sudden the brake lights stopped working and I noticed the right side (passenger side) parking lights were off. However, all turn signal lights still function. Any thoughts on what caused this condition?

bad ground?
corrosion in the evil bastard light sockets that refuse to function?
burnt out bulb
many other things. . too.

First check the bulbs and sockets. make sure that there are no burned out ones, and the sockets are not corroded. then check the grounds. there will be more, but this is a start.

I thought the same thing, but I checked all the connections and only found one corroded connection. I cleaned it up and still no park lights on the passenger side and no brake lights. Could a bad relay be causing this issue?

Yes a bad relay can be the issue, relays also provide functionality to other components in your car, meaning the same relay can control the fog lights for example- if your fog's work then your relay works. check fuses as well. There are also brake light switches on the master cylinder.

Does anyone know if the brake lights are wired through the headlight switch?

Brake lights are switch activated. Switches are located on the brake master cylinder.

Where in Michigan are you? Nevermind, I watched the video from your website. Very cool!!!

You guys look like you have a great time working on your cars.

Brake lights are switch activated however the switch is activated by brake pedal. At least on the '75 it is. The brake light switch located on the master cylinder is for some sort of brake failure. Generally that switch gets crud in it and is a path for ground to the main flasher which flashes the red light in the instrument cluster. This is the same red light that lights when you pull on the parking brake. If you check that switch, look for continuity between the posts. If you have continuity, you have a bad brake failure switch. I isolated the wire connections with tape. Don't ask how I have intimate knowledge of that particular situation!

parking lights problem.

I had a problem with my 83sc parking lights a few years ago. You may want to check out the light socket on the engine deck lid, sometime they can get dirty and can cause a short. Hope this will help? Good Luck..

With power brake, the light switches are on the master cylinder.

there's a diode in by the headlight switch for the right side running lights. they burn out a lot. just remove it and attach the wires together. as for brake lights, test for 12V at the socket first. if no voltage, suspect the two switches on the master cylinder.

Believe short in engine lid light only impacts drivers side circuit.
