Driver's side mirror fell out

I was out driving today and noticed that my driver's side mirror was wobbling. Just the mirror, not the shroud. Then I caught it just as it fell out. I guess it is just attached with glue so my question is, what type of glue should I use to stick it back in?

Thanks Gary. But it doesn't appear that they address the issue I have with mine. Just the glass part of my mirror fell out.

If I'm not mistaken those mirrors are held in by 3 'clips' attached to the insides of the housing and are pressed into the mirror.

That's how it is on my '84. The pins press into the motor plate that moves during adjustment. Clay,was it only the mirror or everything in the housing plus the still attached mirror?

mine did that last week. unfortunately, it hit the ground. $80 for a new glass. an '87 doesn't have the 3 pins. there's a circular lock ring that locks it in. stick a pocket screwdriver in the hole at bottom center of the rubber and turn the ring by way of the notches on the bottom of the ring. you can reattach the glass with several strips of industrial strength double sided stickyback tape.

John, it's funny you mention how much a new mirror costs because when I caught it the first thing I thought is "I just saved myself $80!" LOL

mine fell out last year and broke...replaced it with some template mirror glass cut by the local glass store ($14). Adhered with silicone.

Same thing on my 89. Don't see any "clamping arrangement" for the mirror, as it looks to be (simply) glued in. I've a replacement mirror to mount so this thread's in good timing.

I've several adhering solutions (ideas, that is). One would want to remember (in my case) that there exists a set of heater elements that will need to best transfer it's heat,.....and to try and get her in so that no moisture gets in.

I'm thinking of engaging the full attachment flush (no tape, although I hear it works ok),..even sealing the outer edges. I, too, am looking at this "black schtuff",..occasionally scraping some of it off, for the hey of it,..now, I'm wondering whether I need to score this black (dried) adhesive base (or, even, remove?) before attaching the new glass with the magic adhesive substance,.....(?)

same thing happened to the driver's side mirror on my 86 -- mine actually was hanging on by a small strip of original glue on the top edge and the mirror glass would inexplicably pivot up on acceleration -- took me a while to figure out what was going on but I was able to fix it before the glass shattered.

Anyway, per a suggestion I found searching Pelican, I used some 3m Weatherstrip Adhesive to reattach the mirror (after cleaning off the back of the mirror and its mount). It's held on fine for over a year so far and looked to be just the adhesive for the job.

Doesn't this tape use cause the mirror to mount higher than it normally would?
