Securing Carpet Under 1988 Driver's Seat
Friends,
I have searched the forum and have not found anything on this obscure topic. The carpet used to attach somehow under the driver's seat, but it no longer does. The hard plastic edge slips nicely over the underseat part, but I think there used to be an additional plastic attachment there that somehow secured it? Now it does not secure, and on track, the carpet ends up being pulled forward. I have had to remove it from the car when driving on track for lack of a better solution short term. I may eventually get an aluminum or other hard liner for down there, but short of gluing the carpet down, have any of you come up with a way to secure it? I think I may have the plastic part from the passenger seat side which came off shortly after I got the car, I save everything that "comes off" the car :-) Any suggestions? PUnch a couple of holes in that hard end and ziptie it around that metal bar? That's all I can come up with...feedback welcome! Here is the carpet piece pulled back: ![]() And just for fun here is a picture of my car enjoying the sunshine this afternoon! ![]() Here is the underside of the driver's seat where the carpet goes ![]() And here is that same place with the carpet laid in place...but not secure

I have an 84 and the carpet just lays in there nice an secure, with the plastic lip securely in place, not attached. I have never tracked the car so not sure if that kind of movement would cause it to shift around.

Mine used to move around too--even though the plastic piece sat nicely on top of the front of the DME. I solved it by getting new floormats. The new carpet keeps the really old, somewhat threadbare original piece firmly in place.

I *knew* I had this piece saved - here is the plastic thingy I was talking about that came off my driver's side carpet. It was attached to the underseat-end of the carpet and helped to hold it over the raised place under the seat. I'm going to pull the carpet out and see if I can't get this thing re-attached, and whether that helps hold the carpet.
![]() If not, I'm going to be going for a whole new quick & dirty solution for floor covering in the front, such as aluminum or weather-all rubber mats. I am so tired of the carpet moving around, it just aggravates the $^%& outta me. Don't worry, for any track driving, I have just been removing the whole piece of carpet rather than have it sliding around under my feet, the pedals, etc.

Now the front of the carpet is secured with removable Velcro as is the area under the seat. Sure would like to find a replacement "plastic" part. Good luck, Gerry

Maybe remove some of the sound deadening and then use velcro?

That plastic piece is a shield for the seat motors and attaches to the seat - not the carpet or floor.

Get some lloyds floormats to protect your carpet. They come with hooks which hold onto the the seat mounts. I have never had a problem with them moving during spirited driving.

There is nothing holding the mat in other than fit, and the surface on the back of the mat. The surface becomes a bit polished with time and wear. If your mat is sliding around, try this. Take the mat out and flip it over. Spray some random "beads" of 3M spray adhesive on it. LET IT DRY. Then put the mat back. The dried glue will provide some extra traction.
