Hi again!

During my search for a classic 911 to build a rally car, as explained on my other topic:

.. I found something else, exactly the double price of the car first introduced on the spotted topic, but seemed to me a more conscious project, although I probably lose the opportunity to build a rally car as I wished.

911 SC - 1982

Car was bought in Germany - Frankfurt, on a previous Porsche dealer in 1994. It was lost at the end of his old workshop... It was brought to the island by a friend of mine and then sold to a local doctor that was the person who sold me the car.
It was supposed to start a minor restoration but then again, for any reason the owner didn't go forward and the car was left outside to what the weather brings...

It doesn't look too bad. . .do you now own it?

Don't worry about missing the opportunity to build a rally car. One door closes, another opens. Keep us all posted on how it works out.

Maybe one day I'll see it in person. It's been years since I've been to Portugal and the islands. Time to go back soon and enjoy a wonderful country.

I am very happy with this change! Its a very different project from what I was planning before but now, after few hours working on it, I am very motivated!

I soon will post some more photos of the updates and some "nice" things I found - not that kind of big surprises but...

Nice to hear that you know our little country and our even smaller islands!

The place where the car was was so dark and the car was (still is) so dusty that I didn't realize it was a dark blue interior... bit disapointed... but will see...

Maybe a change to full black interior or... keep the blue and change the cloth part with blue leather - much cheapper!

Next step was to find all the rust.

Started by taking off the doors, front bumper and valance.

I'm with Jim Richards. All is not lost on the rally car dream. Check out some of the cars coming out of Francis Tuthill's workshop. Not cheap by any means and very hard to replicate, but they are inspirational to look at and drool over. You can do wonderful things with a 3.0l car and if you want to race it, there's still FIA certification and classing to suit a vehicle like that.

That's a very nice project!
Although a bid difficult to replicate but still possible with a few variations.

But the main thing about this acquisition is that the car is complete and with only a few rust issues... I think it is a good opportunity to have a nice stock car.
At the same time, I think I should gain some more experience (and budget!) before starting on the rally project.

Maybe this new experience will be the basis for a business I wanted to start from many years and never had opportunity...

My son has always been around asking if it is almost finished, if it takes to long for him to go for a ride, etc.

... and every time a fender or a panel comes out, he starts to scream "Bravo dady, you did it!"

First considerations
 

First considerations...

Positive aspects:

- general condition
- many things never touched since production
- complete (even handbook is still there... like the tool kit...)
- no signs of rust on the boot compartment

Negative aspects:

- both fenders are very afected, specially on the attachement surface with inner fender soon will have to decide if repair or uy new ones...
- both windshield corners are very affected - thinking replacing with new corner panels - please someone with experience can advise if it is better to repare instead, due to its condition?
- inner fender (left side), rust near the shock absorber top. Dont know if there is a repair panel for that area but even if not, doesn't look difficult to repair
- dark blue interior... still thinking what to do... maybe keep it blue for budget reasons and just change cloth by leather...

Dark blue interiors are great. Ferrari used to use blue on their race cars.

Another day of work, not for so long as I expected...

Keep on disassembling some stuff, and today, I focused on another affected area.

Had to take out some leather trim, door sill and aluminum trim.

Rear quarter window was not difficult because I cut the seal...

This issue left me with many doubts about how it can be repaired.

I would like to hear from someone that had been dealing with the same problem.
Or if there is a topic about this repair, please let me know.
