Monty Muffler is BACK

I finally was able to contact Monty in Australia two weeks ago and place an order for a 2-in, 2-out Monty Muffler for my 1983 SC with '74-style heat exchangers. He made it to order, shipped it out on Monday Sept 27, I received it on Thursday Sept 30 (in Seattle), and John Walker installed it Friday. Saturday I did a short 200 mile road trip, and this muffler is awesome! Nice deep throaty sound, absolutely no annoying resonances or droning. The craftsmanship on the muffler, well, it's a work of art! This muffler was well worth the wait (6 months while Monty was settling into new workspace and dealing with some business issues). The cost was a bit high, but way worth it to have a superior quality-made and sounding muffler. I recommend Monty, and John Walker, highly!!!

I loved my single out Monty, though it did get a bit loud after constant 6-7 hours straight hwy speeds on road trips. But no way "too loud" for city driving or piss off neighbor loud.

A few questions...

Was your '83 a stock 3.0 with CIS?

What style pipes did it come with (2 in 2 out)?

Really no drone between 2k - 3k rpm???

Thanks

Quick pic of the Monty, single out, with freshly installed SSI's.
No they aren't cheap, but full stainless and excellent quality of welds......

Okay, folks; Details; Monty Muffler was $900 AUD, shipping was $448.25 AUD = $1,275 USD. My car is a stock 3.0SC with stock CIS and '74-style heat exchangers. The Monty is a 2-in, 2-out (75mm pipes). No, I don't have sound clips. And really, absolutely NO droning at any RPM or load. The loudest spot seems to be at slight load at 1,900 rpm.....but way shy of what anyone would consider a drone. If anything, this muffler is a bit quieter than I had expected....but it does sound sweet. Again, well worth the cost. Thank you Monty, and thanks to my mechanic, John Walker, for insisting I wait for a Monty.

Wow, that muffler alone is close to what I paid for a fully custom, TIG welded, mandrel bent, dual cat high flow all stainless system! ..including labor!

Probably would be worth alot more with the price of gold these days.

You may pay a little less for other stainless crap that is being sold, but with a Monty you get quality, a muffler that makes horsepower and torque and doesn't have any drone issues.

+1 And I thought asking $1500 for my complete header & muffler system made of inconel & stainless was a bit high. Monty pricing makes me feel a bit better now!?

You can buy a good POS daily driver for $1650!!!

It is made of engine dyno testing and maybe engineering - those cost money.

Likely, they take the retail price of a stock Monty and add on to that to amortize the above costs. As the units made goes down, the cost per unit goes... UP.

Speed costs money.

I don't disagree with the cost justifications stated. But I still stand by my comment- you can buy an ENTIRE car for that muffler. Like a Hunday, Mazda, Nissan whatever older econobox that has a/c, a radio, power windows etc., gets decent gas mileage. A WHOLE CAR...........

I was,...well,...still am actually, in need of a 2 in/ 1 out muffler for my 1970 911 project. I was hoping to find a Monty but as you all know, they are nearly impossible to find used. I emailed with them in Oz and was told a new muffler would be $1000 plus $200 shipping to the States. That's Aus. dollars, so you'd pay, maybe an additional $100 for the currency conversion.

Just an fyi.

Rich
