Post Off Topic for Mark Szabo (computer related)

Yes, I really am an ASP programmer, but I started out as VB, and have spent most of my ASP time thrust in web based crystal reports for payroll, and haven't kept up on cold hard ASP or browser Objects.
The question:
Everytime I run ICQ, it sets my home page to f'ing ICQ. What security do I toggle in IE to prevent software from changing my homepage?

if it is an older version of ICQ you will need to edit in the registry but if it is newer, you have the option to do it under preferences. what broweser you running??

go to tools, internet options,

and change your homepage to what you want..

if that dont work, then change it in the preferences in ICQ.

Just curious, how do you get into being an ASP programmer? I was thinking of entering this world of work and having to worry about all this stuff but I am doing a Phd instead

I don't like ICQ BTW, it seems to have too many security loopholes in it for people to exploit.

Ummm...upgrade to the newest version of ICQ. The new version doesn't do that. I remember that version of ICQ that did that...I stopped using ICQ for a while.

There's no security setting in IE that I know of that blocks other apps from setting a homepage. It's actually not supposed to allow other apps to do that - upgrade to the latest version of IE as well - 5.5.

My ICQ is 4721660, btw.

Okay, I'll do that then. I'll do both in fact. It's very annoying...
Thanks.
Asp programming? The old bait and switch. You get hired as a VB programmer (dlls and active x) then you find it's all web and asp (but you can use vbscript). Problem is, there's a shortage of good programmers, if you know VB and other stuff, you're in. Of course the math BA helped too.

Visual Basic is a good language for extreme beginners, but nowdays it's all about portability and speed. Visual Basic has neither of those. I've been doing VB6 for 4 years, and C/C++ for 2 years, and Perl for about two weeks (Programming Perl is a great book). Linux is a much better environment (full compilation) to code in also. BASIC is dead, get over it.

Tell the millions of VB programmers working the millions of VB projects making billions of dollars to get over it.

Linux = another platform, useful for some things. C/C++ = another language, useful for some things. Hell, for that matter, *nix, NT/2000, VB...all useful for some things.

Get off your high horse and come down to reality.
