Back from the paint shop

Just want to share my excitement, the car is back from the paint shop!
Nicely in the original color Metallic Green 224.
Now I have to put it all back together and of we go.
Hopefully just in time to enjoy the summer a bit ;-)
Cheers from Prague.
Ed

That looks beautiful!

Need to have mine repainted at some time, how many hours do you estimate it took you to get it ready to go to the shop?

Cheers, Björn

It was quite easy. Think it took me a weekend or so. The oil tank of model 72 creates some complications because it needs to be removed to get to the targa bar.

While the car was at the paint shop, I cleaned and repaired all the stuff left in my garage (lights, locks etc)

Good luck.

Hi Ed,

Your still driving with your dutch license plates? Is that allowed in Czech?

Nice color. Would change to euro H4 headlamps though.....

You can drive with Dutch plates anywhere as long as the owner is registrated as inhabitant of the Netherlands.

Good point about the Euro headlights. Mine are H4 but apparently different. Do you know the difference?

Euro H4´s have a different pattern on the lens that directs more of the light onto the street. US direct some light upwards for freeway signs etc. If you have Euro H4´s you will have to change the rings. Actually to be honest I thought you´d have to convert them anyway to get the car registered.

The US units are sealed beam units and have an (Ugly) large chrome ring. The euro units are available as a full replacement for the US units and make the appearance of the car so much better.

Ed, any chance on seeing you on a dutch 911/921 club meeting this year?

Still I replaced the US units with the ones on the car now to pass the Dutch road test. Mine are H4 but still have the plastic rim under the light. Key question is; what was standard in 72?

I'm member of the Dutch 911/912 club but live temporary in Prague. Will be back in the Netherlands one day and then definitely join a meeting!

If you have h4's in there now, they have the same pattern as the h4 setup that is being talked about now.

I have sugar scoops w/ h4 lamps in them. They have the same light pattern - level w/ the 30 degree upswing on the right side of the light beam.

There are two ways of having h4s on thes cars. If you have the sugar scoops (I'm hoping I'm using that term correctly), then you can install hella or cibie h4 lights in place of us spec sealed beam lights.

Of course, the opinion on aesthetics is personal, but I will be converting over to the later style h4 assembly that does change the look of the car. It gives the lights more of a swept back look vs. the upright look of the older style. IMO, on a longhood, stick with that style, it seems more in keeping with the period.

Feel free to educate me if I'm totally off base here, but I'm pretty certain that I'm on target with my info.

Michael

Ed,

These are the H1/H4 european style headlamps. The difference is not in the type of halogen bulbs they use, but the way the lamps look on the car. It is a 10 minute job to replace the complete unit over to euro spec. IMHO, improves the look of the car significantly.

If you are going to buy these, let me know. Know someone who sells them at a reasonable and low price. Let's face it, that's what we dutch are after

Groet,

Great job Ed. Your 72 has come a long way in a very short time. Congrats.
