Whale Tales

Hi,
I am rebuilding a '70 and a Whale Tale is in it's future. In fact, I already have one that I think is perfect. However, somewhere on one of these posts or at one of the recent car shows I saw a whale tale that looked like it just came out of the ocean. It was huge. It looked to be made of fiberglass but it could have been some other type of metal. It did not have any rubber around the edges. Anyway, does anyone have one of these huge tales? If so, do you have a picture to share and some information about it eg what year(s) was it from, what would you call it, etc?

Thanks for any feedback.
Tim

Whoa, on a '70? Yikes.

Your car, though...

BTW, it's TAIL, not tale.

I don't know how the rest of your car is gonna look like, but a whale tail or a friggin' IROC tail on a longhood car???? Not gonna be pretty IMO, way too large.

But like said before, your car, if you like it, then it's ok.

IROC tail is fine on a longhood as long as you have RSR flares, or at LEAST RS flares. Stock 1970 body is way over-tailed by an IROC wing. Just extra weight and drag.

It's cool. It is Magnus's car. (Although you do not know Magnus, being from Belgium). He has plenty of "proper" SWB hotrods/rally cars/911R replicas without tails.

As another point of reference, look at Chad Plavan's car. It has ST flares and no wing. He is one of the fastest guys in his class and is amazing to watch him around Big Willow working the wheel around the super-fast turns like 8/9. Wingless is the word for Oversteer.

Does this make my butt look too big?

IROC is much better than a ducktail at reducing lift and since it is fiberglass it is WAY lighter than the solid rubber things.

HI,
Thanks for the information. I now know that it is a IROC tail. That is all I was really after. I am not really planning on putting it on my '70, just wanted to get the name of this tail. That is my tale about my tail. I realized I used the wrong spelling after I sent the message. But thanks for pointing it out tcar, I will try and do better next time!!

"Whale Tales' was great for a thread title. Perfect.

We ALL misspell stuff. A lot of them (like this one) won't be picked up by spell check.
