starter problem
I've noticed that my starter is slow to engage after I've driven the car for a while and try to start it again. Most recently my wife need to stop at the rest area on our 2 hour journey and I got no engagement at all. Ended up jump starting it to get it going. Once the car cools for 15 minutes or so the car starts fine.
It seems like this would be an issue with the solenoid and could be repaired fairly inexpensively. anybody try this route?

Yep, I had my factory part rebuilt locally as well as went through and cleaned/inspected allof the ground points on my car. No problems since that time. The guy commented on how well the piece had held up for 25+years.
The ground strap at the transmission is a good place to start.

I just got done cleaning up the tranny ground because the starter action was getting a little too intermittent for my tastes. Problem solved, but it's a b!tch getting to the bolt under the tranny mount.

If jump starting works when "regular" starting doesn't, you don't have a starter problem. Jump starting is what you do when your battery isn't strong enough to turn the starter.

oops sorry for the confusion. In this case jump starting refers to having my wife hold the wheel strait while I push from behind to get the car rolling and hen jump in the car to pop the clutch in first gear.

Starter problems: replaced the starter and battery and the car will not start. Cleaned battery cables, check continuty from starter to battery to ignition and it checks out. Checked the ground(s) and they appear to be good (receiving 12.5v throughout system)
Use power probe to check system and getting correct readings... What else can be wrong???? Do I need to put new cables in???? Pos. cable to battery to ignition to starter plus neg cables... Thanks for the help in advance Ed |

Maybe one of the installed components are bad , out of the box?
What is she trying to do? cranking but not starting? Doyle
