HELP!! Problem Reassembling airbox...
I have an 82 911sc, and recently one of the rubber tubes that connect the intake runners to the airbox blew out. I did a partial drop of the engine, and removed all of the upper half of the cis, and replaced all of the rubber tubes. Now that it's time to reassemble everything, I've hit a brick wall...
It seems the driver's side of the lower half of the airbox is actually warped inward, and I'm having an impossible time trying to get the two halves of my airbox to go back together. I can get the screws on that are inside the airbox on the front and passenger side, but can't seem to line up the holes on the outside of the airbox on the driver's side. Where do I go from here? Is my only option to buy a new bottom half, or is there some way to make it line up? Thanks in advance. -Graham |

If I'm reading this right you have the intake runners still bolted on to the heads? If so I feel that the runners still being attached could be distorting the airbox. I would reassemble with the complete system off the car. Your more than halfway there anyway.

Thanks for the advice, it sounded like a good idea, but unfortunately it's warped whether the runners are attached or not...
Any other ideas? |

try using some heat. heat lamp, industrial blow gun to soften up the plastic. those two halves are glued together from the factory. u may want to use some adhesive when finally assembly is done

are you saying that the airbox is separated? like the top and bottom are apart? that's commonly known as a blown airbox. you absolutely need to completely remove it, and either replace it or if it's split at the tongue and groove seam, use a proper glue. otherwise, you will have a huge air leak. not just any glue will hold it. it has to be a HDPE or PP type glue. 3M DP8005 is one.
