New Guy with some show and tell and some questions and pics!
First off thanks to everyone here for the great community and wealth of knowledge. I've already learned so much in the short time I've been lurking and decided to buy a 911 instead of a boxster. I can't wait for my copy of 101 projects to come in. Also sorry for any grammatical errors since it's 1am and I'm still tired from the day before and don't want to reread this, I understand some forums can be harsh on typos lol
Hi guys my name is Amir and I am the VERY proud new owner of Lola, a 911S. My last cars were an 82 BMW 320i car that I had set up for Auto-x's, track days and enthusiastic driving. And I just got rid of a 1990 Miata that was Turbo'd and being built for Redline Time Attack This past Saturday 3 friends and I drove to New Mexico from CA and back in 25 Hours to pick up my new to me 1976 911. After being up for 38 hours and driving for 18 hours straight with most of them in a track car with no a/c or radio in 100+ temps I was a bit delirious. It could have been from the combination of sleep deprivation, dehydration, and my right knee feeling like Rosanne Barr body slamed it from a ladder. However, all that couldn't remove the ear to ear grin I had on my face from knowing that I had accomplished a life goal and had a 911 sitting in my garage. Here are some pics of the trip! ![]() My sister and friend at one of our first fill ups ![]() Me on the way there, I think we're in NM at this point ![]() Still early in the trip enjoying my first hours of 911 ownership ![]() Mikey ![]() too bad there was glare otherwise I'd have really liked this shot of the gauges ![]() Here she is ![]() And from behind ![]() My sister loves clouds ![]() After what felt like a lifetime she was home TEH GOODS! 76 911S race car run with POC and swms 2.7 with 9.5:1 JE pistons, Solex Cam, and 40IDA Weber's (34 Venturies) Nikasil cylinders Petronix ignition, Magnum spark enhancer backdated 74 Ex manifold 915 transaxle (which I've learned is not for the faint of hear compared to my miata!) 7.31 r&p 23f & 28r torsions 2440lbs Front sway from an 86 Carrera Rear sway Weltmeister adjustable Adjustable koni's in front and I think Billie's in the rear Elephant bronze bushing f&r Remotech mesh wheels 16x8 16x9 wrapped in goodR888's Fron calipers from a 928s and rears from a 930 Pagid's in the front and "carbon's" in the rear Mercedes Master Cylinder Small battery Cut off switch Reclining Recaro's Autopower Race bar Drivers side window net I'm pretty happy with where the car is although since I've never been able to leave cars stock or the way I found them I'm sure in a year she'll be a completely different beast. Now to the questions. I will search for these but if you're like me you probably already have a nice folder in your favorites of the answers to these questions that would probably save me a lot of time and I would appreciate that. In the list from the P.O. there is a not that says the carbs are set for 5000/6000 ft of elevation and to Rejett the carbs if it will be running below that. I am well below that and would like some advice since I know NOTHING about carbs other than they sound nice. Do those of you with carbs run a wideband? I plan on putting one in despite it destroying the old school look the car has and I love ![]() I have a leak that's not small by any means looking to be coming from two locations, It looks to be coming from the crank shaft pulley so I'm not sure if that is an easy seal to replace and if I can do it by just taking the pulley etc off. Still not sure since I've yet to jack the car up and take a real look. I plan on doing an oil change tomorrow with BP 20w50 if I can get my hands on it. Is it possilbe to downshift to first without grinding it (I consider myself a driver and have hopped in and driven many cars with no issue. These were all new cars though and I've never struggled with shifting and heel toeing this much in my life!) Last edited by 5:04; 08-24-2010 at 12:54 AM.. |

Great choice...
Amir
Welcome to the board... Great intro. BP oil is perfect. Oil leak... not a real Porsche if you don't have 1 or 2. Grinding 1st gear (915), either double clutch or wait until the car is stop before putting it in. Have fun ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Amir,
welcome and great introduction. Looks like your speedo isn't working, although after 38 hrs behind the wheel I am sure you know this.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Being a certifiable car nut I'm registered on about 20 different car forums, but I can say without a doubt that no other forum combines the wealth of knowledge found here with the sense of community you get here. A lot have one or the other but never both.

welcome aboard Amir.
Your garage is so much like mine. That old wooden door, and the biggo beam accross the garage, which looks like a problem of my dream 4 poles lift.

Congratulations Amir!
That trip was a great way to start the new relationship with your new 911! I would imagine it is a pretty lively ride at 2,440 lbs. Enjoy! Mike |

Amir,
Nice car! You will enjoy it! I second about double clutching or not shifting into first until at a dead stop. I always double clutch when downshifting no matter the gear. Take it easy on that transmission at first it might take some time to get used to after using a hydraulic one I know it did for me. Be sure where the leaks are coming from. Clean the engine and follow the leaks. Fans will blow the oil around and it might NOT be coming from where you think. Do a search on Pelican about oil leaks around the pulley. Lots of information. And, if I might be so bold as to offer even more advice, I would stay away from modding for a little bit of time. Get used to how she runs now and see what HAS to be done (ie where is that oil coming from?). Once you start working on what has to be done you will find 20 different things to do "while you are in there." Trust me on this one, most of us have gone down that road...

Congrats !!!
Ummmm ill probably get bashed on for saying this but carbs are 40s technology. Dump those and get yourself a standalone EFI system so youll NEVER have to worry about rejetting or any of the undesired issues carbs have. More power, more torque, better fuel economy, better cold start up, better throttle response, precise a/f/r across the entire rpm. That would be my first change to that car. Sell the carbs and it will offset the price of the EFI Goodluck and look forward to seeing more pics and stories!
