no, the 964 awd manual trans is unique to that model and consists of concentric main shafts for front and rear output drive.

later G64s from 993 on have a single main shaft that provides the front and rear output. In this later design the front output can be disconnected and covered to provide rwd only.

the r&p has nothing to do w/ it. The output shafts of a 964 G64 consist of concentric shafts connected by a computer controlled hydraulic clutch pack. The pinion for rear drive runs inside the hollow shaft #2 and the ends of both shafts are splined to the hydraulic clutch pack

here's a pic,#1 the rear pinion, #2 is the hollow shaft, on the right end of each are are the splines to the clutch pack, #8 is the input shaft gear cluster which runs parallel to the output shafts

You can convert a G64 for 2 wheel drive. You just have to weld up the gears in the center differential. The nice thing about the G64 is that you can rig the LSD to be variable 0-100% and adjustable from the cockpit. A local guy here uses this in his track car.

The problem is that the gearbox is very long so you need to remove the torsion tube and make a bulge in the rear seat.
But I think there must be a way to remove the center diff housing from the gearbox and shorten the gearbox to a normal G50 length.

yeah, you could do that

to remove the center diff you'd then need to weld the 2 concentric shafts together, yeah, you could do that too

if you want 2wd it's soooo much easier to remove all the awd stuff and swap in a g50, 5 or 6sped will work fine

Another nice thing about the G64 is that you can find one for 1/4 of the cost of a G50.... since there is little or no demand for them.

Welding the gears can be done and do work.

Do you suppose that there might be a reason that there is no demand for them?
