I hear that they're not really worth anything because they're not very sought after. That's why you see all these other targas running around with the collapsable tops. But just to be a nice guy and help you out, I'll give you $250 for it!

hmmmmm

I sense that you are being facecious (the only word in the English language with all the vowels in the correct order) the person I bought the car off said it was worth 'alot' of money and that they are desirable. But it's very heavy to take on and off... if it was worth enough to buy me a fold up top in good condition and pay for some much needed work on the car then I may consider selling it. However, if it's only worth $250 then I'll get back to my original plan of prostituting my dog.

Cheers

I actually heard that they may sell for up to $1000 or more if they are in really good condition. I think there were only a couple years when they were offered by the factory.

It is worth ... whatever the seller and buyer agrees to be the case. That is the wonderful thing about the market forces.

If you are willing to part with it and someone else is willing to pay for it, agree on a price and ... do the deal.

Blimey guv'nor

That's about £700 in british quids. It would go a significant way to sorting out the things that need sorting.

Something to think about I suppose.

Cheers for the help

"Facetiously". Some of us English major wannabes consider poor oft-forgotten "y" to be a vowel.

Hang onto it--they're much sought-after.

And now, for something less amusing but more helpful. If you're in the US, where the top is rare and sought after, it's worth around $1200 minimum. I'd buy one for that and consider it money well spent. I suspect that an eBay auction, with the URL posted to the appropriate forums (here, Rennlist, alt.autos.porsche on usenet) would net you close to $2000 for it. Which leads to the question: why on Earth would you sell it? It's one of those things I think you'd kick yourself for down the road.

If I had a pocket full of cash and nothing else to do with it I'd buy it and pay the shipping. Not that my soft top is bad since it's been restored, but I think a hardtop would look better, be quieter, and possibly be cooler in the summer. Something that I've always wondered about is if you can get a spare soft top frame how hard could it be to make a hardtop with some fiberglass (glassfiber or is it "glassfibre" for you Brits) and a little time to experiment?

Kicking myself down the road!

If it is a case of me bieng extremely daft if I sell it then I will try to keep hold of it. Although if I do it's because it's rare and desirable... not because I particularly like it. If I buckle I will sell it and buy a tidy soft top. The trouble is that I'm not too wealthy and there are other jobs/things to do on the car that I would prioritise over having the hard top.... I'll see how it goes.

Best Regards

"...not because I particularly like it."

I haven't seen one in person before yet I've wanted one for awhile. However, I'm curious as to what the negative aspects of the hard top are?

Could someone post pictures of this thing?

It's kind of like the loch ness monster to me.. seen references a lot but no good pictures. Both on and off the car would be great?

Just curious..

;-)

Thanks!

Since you are from England, shouldn't you be prostituting your "bird"

"Could someone post pictures of this thing? "

I have some pics of one. Not sure how to post them here but can e-mail them.

Btw, it looks like the production Carrera GT will have a hard targa top!
