shift coupler cone set screw - allen wrench size?
Hey Guys -
Did a search, and I couldn't find the answer. Just working on re-bushing the rear coupler, and I had a problem. The allen wrench that seemed to be the right size was 4 mm. However - when I finally got the screw out (and man - was that a challenge), the screw was stuck on it. I basically had to ruin it to get it off of my allen wrench. Is this the size everyone uses? I don't think I have a 5 mm allen, but is that the right size? What size does everyone use for this? Please let me know. Thanks, Ken |
Use a machine screw with a socket head instead. Take the OE set screw to the local hardware store and match the threads to a new bolt. Yes, the head will stick up a bit as opposed to being countersunk but who cares?
I replaced my bungled up set screw with a 10mm headed bolt. A socket is easier to use in this application. |
4mm allen fits.
The early cars used a square headed bolt with a point and with a wire tie through the head Bruce |
