Front susp./Brakes 964 versus 930 or G model
why is the 964 car so much better in the front suspension and in the capability of braking at the front end compared with older G models ?? A Friend and i have tried several different cars 930s Different G models and 2 different 964 and even the 930 3.3 seems not to brake as good and reliable as the 964. ( not talking about heat) only the feeling of control. The 930 have huge brakes compared to the 964, but you never feel the same control by braking the 930 down from high speed down to f. ex. a roundabout as in the 964.
The only thing i can see as might be the Hugh different is how the suspension works during braking. The old cars also seems to skate much more over front than the 964 Is it possible to make a pre 964 car braking like a 964 with better control, or is it really not so bad as I'm trying to describe here ? I need to say, that i have never had a pre 964 built with all new parts in the front suspension. Are the brake servo bigger on the 964 ?

I never noticed that the 964-based cars felt better at the front when braking than the previous generation. The ABS allowed you to be more ham-footed and get away with it.

What i feel is much before the ABS actually gets activated - i have not observed the ABS in use when i have driven the 964

The biggest difference is the scrub radius of the older cars.
up to '89 911s have a small (+) scrub radius from '89 964 upo they have a small (-) scrub radius that allows differential brake forces across the front axle, add a suspension that is somewhat more supple and that is probably what you feel.

But what is ment by 'scrub radius' .. can't translate it do danish, so maybe you could explain it for me. Could the more supple suspension be made by making at 935 style front suspension ?

Now i understand what the +/- scrub radius mean... this would even be worse with wider wheels (to the positive side)

SCRUB RADIUS
Definition: The distance between the extended centerline of the steering axis and the centerline of the tire where the tread contacts the road. If the steering centerline is inboard of the tire centerline, the scrub radius is positive. If the steering centerline is outboard of the tire centerline, the scrub radius is negative. Rear-wheel drive cars and trucks generally have a positive scrub radius while FWD cars usually have zero or a negative scrub radius because they have a higher SAI angle. Using wheels with different offset than stock can alter the scrub radius.

There's a good article explaining scrub radius on Wikipedia.
I know the word in Swedish, but I'm afraid it does not seem to be anything like the Danish word for scrub radius. /Peter
