volt meter numbers from battery test...

Hello,
I've been having the seatbelt warning light come on during acceleration. Searched posts and thought it is probably the Voltage regulator. Other members said to check the battery with a volt meter, so here it is:

Car off: 12
at idle: 13 to 14
at 2,000+ rpm: 17 (and usually the seatbelt light at the same time)

Are these numbers a sign of the VR or the alternator, or something completely different?

Also, does anyone know the difference between the 2 VRs our host sells? The Valeo brand is $57.50 and the Hueco is $27.

i agree. you should never see as reading of 17v.

VR for sure. I suggest you call our host and ask them what they think about the difference between the two.

Don't be driving it until you get it fixed.

17V can fry expensive stuff (computer, wiring, etc) and can start a fire.

Pelican Technical Article: 911 Alternator & Voltage Regulator Removal/Replacement

I used the Huco..no issues. Also, once the alternator is out, good idea to have it gone over by an electrical shop. I had new bearings and new copper slip rings installed ( badly worn out grooves). Suggest the good people at Suburban Electric in Depew, not too far from you....



EDIT--> 12V at battery terminals indicates a nearly dead battery.

full charge...12.6-12.7 volts
75% charge....12.4 V
50% charge....12.2 V
24% charge.... 12.0 V
"Dead"............ < 12V

The tool kit has a wrench to put over the pulley.

Best place to "take" your car is... IMHO.... your own garage.

I pretty much learned this way..... the 911 was not only an occasional driver, it allowed you work on the car.... slowly if you needed to...because you had other daily drivers when Monday rolled around and had to be at work. Nice thing about this is that you can visualize and think through your repair work, without rushing to finish on a deadline....with a great bunch of guys here who will help.

Maybe I'll see you at tomorrow's foreign car show at Como Park ?.
