Question Wayne: Rules on what is 'proper'?

I noticed two of the posts had locks on the folder and you can't post in them anymore.

I looked at them and noticed that they both 'had' (I say had because the links are removed) links to sites where there were some explicit pictures of accidents.

I was just wondering if there were rules that I missed somewhere and if not, maybe you just let us know (speaking to Wayne) what the rules on what is appropriate to post and what is not.

Please don't take offense to this, I am just curious so that we all know where you stand so this doesn't have to happen again.

Thanks!

Cool

I need to apologize for posting that link. Every now and then I come across something that hits me hard. The images on that site were pretty graphic, and I thought they might actually serve some purpose on this BBS.
Sorry for anyone that was really "grossed out". I did try to post a warning.

I can almost remember back in ancient times, (High School Drivers Ed) they showed daily film reels of explicit car wrecks. They were tough to watch but quite effective. I think the posts, although graphic, had some merit. Awareness of the consequences of speed is needed on this board with all the posts of 110 mph runs and the like. You never know when someone comes on board and feels the need to keep up with the crowd. I showed the Ferrari pics to my son and his lead footed friend last night before they went out for the evening. They seemed enlightened. I hope the images come to mind every time they get the urge to hammer it. Drive safe guys, but DRIVE!

i have a 1970 911t and after seeing those pictures i will NEVER drive much over the speed limit. my car is old and anything could break on it. im not judging any of you who choose to drive fast, i just dont want to end up like those guys in the link. i personaly like my car more for the looks than the speed it can go. those pictures hit home with me and actually reinforced my already safe driving habits. those pictures can actually be a learning device. i hope everyone drives safely, please be carefull. thats just my 2 cents

KUDOS!!! to JDaniel for posting that link. I'm glad I got the chance to see it. I have always been a speed demon, but try to only let loose in an environment with no risk to anyone but myself (that risk even exists on the "safety" of a track). Sure, there are potholes, deer, and other potential obstacles, but I try to make sure I have a clear and smooth route before breaking 85 or so, and I do try to play it safe. For those of you who say they never push the pedal unless they are on the track.....please. Are you saying you never hit 80 or so in the passing lane? I simply don't believe it. In any event, the pictures posted had a strong impact on me. As a matter of fact, I forward it to many of my friends, and they feel the same. Granted, those guys were going way too fast, but in a targa, even at 50 MPH, something like that can happen. I must truly say, that I will throw caution to the wind less often, which in turn, makes the roads safer for everyone, especially me. Again, I'm not a daredevil, but do realize that ANYTHING can happen while behind the wheel. Those pictures are more effective than the editors realize. Additionally, their effectiveness definitely outweighs their offesiveness. Put them back up, as I'm very confident that if they slow me down, even now and then, they have the potential to save lives. Thank you.

This board has Pelican Parts name at the top. It is financed and supported by Pelican Parts. It represents them on the web. I would hope we don't need Wayne to explain to us, what is in good taste. If you think a post has value but is graphic in nature, let people email you for the link. Just judging from the post Wayne has allowed in the past, I feel he is being very "hands off" and liberal with what he lets us post. My .02 cents........

It's true that we don't need overkill on the violent link fest, but I for one needed to see those pictures. But I probably wouldn't have gone out specifically and looked for them.

My rules for what is appropriate:
1) If certain people somewhere in the nation start pulling out other certain kinds of people out of their cars and beating them, don't say anything directly. This is not a politcal forum. Instead, talk in mystic cliches and metaphors: "The chickens always come home to roost," or "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones," or "Gees that sure is sad, I hope I'm not pulled out of my car and beaten " are fine things to say.

2) So far, Pelican hasn't had any psychos, so not to worry. (Except for Leland. But he's one of the 'likable' psychos, the kind of guy you'll say "Yeah, it was the best prime Rib I ever had, what ol' Leland made for me. Then I found out it was Bob the Barber. What a shock"

3) This is a post deliberately set to push the limits.

4) Don't bag on the Canadians. I mean, the "Kids in the Hall" are Canadian--you'd have to know, they mention that every episode. According to one skit, a Canadian is "Just like an American but without the Gun." I'd like to append this with " and without a military." The last great Canadian military campaign I can remember was the joint one with the US to rescue the Iran Hostages. Anyone seen Barney Fife in a Helicopter? Okay, you've seen the Canadian military.

5) Hard to believe US is really a rogue colony of Britain isn't it? I think I'll go further off topic and say, I'm part of a movement to rejoin the UK under His Majesty. I'm a movement of One at the moment.

Okay, I'm done. Gotta go do some stuff.

Kurt,

Good reply, however many people forget that the Canadians are the ones who were our ONLY real ally inside the country when the Iranians siezed our Embassy and Diplomats. They assisted the people who were not captured and hid many of them until they were able to be smuggled out of the country on CANADIAN DIPLOMATIC passports to safety.

I am biased... I work for a Canadian company (Bombardier) here in the states but have felt this way for a long time. These Ladies and Gents from the North deserve a pat on the back, tip of the hat and a beer anytime I am around.

Besides... Ms Shanaya Twain is kinda cute even if I cannot stand C&W musik...

oh, I never said the Canadians were turds...they're not, and they're great allies like the British. But they're still Barney Fifes! No one would question that Barney's heart's in the right place when he's helping old sheriff griffith (the US in this case)...
I guess that's it then. The us is Andy Griffith, and Canada is Barney fife!

As my school mate, the high jumper Dwight Stones said...."I like Canadians"....he had that on a tee shirt....when was it? '76 or 80 Olympics...one of them....

I just like to abuse them, like South Park does....

Now the English...well that's another matter.....I will abuse the silly English Pig Dogs and taunt them again...I will wave my private parts in their faces and run away while throwing down my weapons, sayeth the French border guard....

Badly quoting Life of Brian...I think...

IT'S all in FUN guys.....

I think with due warning the link should be posted.

There is a lot of this - 'I was doin' 120 etc but I knew it was safe'. I'm glad someone is showing the down side of high velocity.
