Wink Porsche newbie

I recently realized that I had an early midlife crises and that I have to buy a 1975 - 1981 Porsche 911
Hopefully I'll buy one next summer if I can find one i good condition.
I would like to get a 911 SC with turbo fenders and a big spoiler
I like the clean look of the 964 bumpers so it would be nice to find one with all this work done, but it's not that important.

Any other bumper suggestions are welcome.

I've been working on Vw's as a hobby for many years but Porsche is a bit different so I hope I can get some help here if needed
Currently I'm restoring a 1975 Vw Golf which has a little bit too much rust.
At the moment it's a bare shell on a homemade wooden car-flipper.

One question at the end.
Is this Gotti wheels?
Can I get them in 17" and where?

Thanks

Welcome to Pelican and a pat on the back for posting a pic from "No Man's Land".

Yes, the wheels on the silver Turbo are Gotti, no they are not available currently in 17 inch although there may an odd set out there.

The 1978-83 SC is a great 911 to start with, providing you get a PPI and buy a good one.

These cars are getting old and if parts have not been replaced you should plan to budget some $$ for that.

Be careful of a converted to widebody SC as a poor job can be a big problem.

Thanks for the welcome
I saw No mans land for the first time a month ago and I though:
this is a great movie, why didn't I see this movie when I was young back in the 80's
I have to buy it for my dvd collection.

What does PPI means?

You can get a nice 911 SC with good service history here in Norway for an affordable price.
If I look under the wheel arches of a widebody SC, can I see the welds or is does the inner arch cover the welds?
I've seen some nice original 911 SC for sale too so I haven't made up my mind about the widebody yet

If you like the look of the 964 why not just look for a real 964? Seems to me after all the cash you spend on changing your SC to look like a 964 you could have had the real thing. If you want the big fenders and wing, why not a 930? It's a buyers market out there.

Welcome and good luck on your search.

PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection.
That is when you findout if the car is a viable buy based on price and condition.
A good PPI should include a compression test as well as a leak-down test, in addition to a thorough check for rust on the body, etc... This is usually performed by a Porsche pro.

I need the car to minimum be 30 years old because then the insurance is cheap.
Insurance for a 964 would cost about $1900 a year while a vintage car insurance cost about $255

I think the old bumpers look a bit weird with the accordion on each side
So the clean 964 bumpers are one option.

930 is a bit out of my price range.
