Short shifter missing something?

I bought a 901 shifter from a fellow pelican really in order to get the shift knob. When I got it I saw that it was in better shape overall then mine so I decided to use it vs. mine.

I cleaned it up but when I was a assembling it I noticed it had one of the old weld on short shift kits on it. I had put these in back in the day in quite a few 914s so I thought, OK, why not.

Well the issue is that with everything in the car the shifter seems like it is binding on something or badly miss-aligned. I am talking super tight, not usable.

I know the Weltmeister had a plate they would use to raise the shifter up, it that what is going on? I am binding because the ball pin in longer and is hitting the bottom of the floor or something?

I never used a plate in the 914s and they shifted fine.

I am getting ready to yank it back out and bust up my fingers yet again putting those darn springs in to get my old shifter cleaned up.

Thanks in advance guys!
