Driven hard?

I can't quite credit this photo, other to say that it was found on the Porsche Club of Victoria (Australia) website. It's certainly not my car!

But it's worth sharing around!

Pity we don't see enough of it...

Great picture!

Beautiful car being driven the way the designers and builders intended.

Inspiring!

Thanks for posting it.

Were sway bars optional that year?

Looks to me like the right rear is close to coming up as well. I like it.

Hmmm, having a 944 car, I don't think I will EVER get into a situation like this. But I am interested. What is the name of this cornering technique. I's it called a "whoo nelly", "Oh mama" or something else.

Does anybody design a car with driving on two wheels in mind? I doubt it...

The engineers didn't know anything about how sticky race tires could get 30 years after the car was sold...

p0r2chby, have you forgotten about my pictures?

Is that a RHD model? Or are there two people in that car? Regardless, who thinks it's going over if it's a LHD car under same circumstances, one occupant?

I don't think the 911 had sway standard sway bars until the "S" in 67, but I don't know for sure. I wasn't born until December of 75!

Cool

Pretty safe to assume it is a RHD, not too many unconverted “left hookers” driven here. By the looks of the chrome rear light surrounds and the narrow trim it looks like a ’69, or earlier, T or E.

My T of the same vintage left the factory without sway bars (a situation that has been changed in the last couple of weeks) so this car might be suffering from the same thing. I believe the shot was taken at Winton Raceway (hour or so out of Melbourne) during one of the recent track days.

Regards,

Right hand drive, can tell by the placement of the side mirror.

Paul,

You're spot on. It was taken during the Winton track day. I'd love to credit the owner/photographer, but there's no mention.

I wish I had the guts to take mine out on the track. I'm too scared of breaking something!

Do you track your T? Sounds like you're a PCV member, too. I'm curious to know how many other Pelican Board Members are Victorians.

If you're out there, drop me a line!

With stock torsion bars, and without swaybars, it's hard not to pull up the front inside wheel during hard cornering on the pre-74 cars. Of course, the early cars are so light they can corner very well on the three that are down, often leaving more contemporary suspension setups in their wakes.

I think that photo really captures the exuberance of driving the early 911s -- a pure adrenaline rush from when Porsche's sportscars were really sportscars.

Adam,

If I'm not mistaken, that's a SWB 911!

Woohoo!

The owner/driver is obviously new to the PCV, or to PCV sprint events -- I haven't seen that car before out on the track.

Imagine rallying a SWB 911!

Cool picture!!!

Yep, it's a SWB 911.
It also seems to have red calipers.
Upgraded brakes maybe?

Adam, I'll be a victorian soon.
I'll be in Oz in two weeks, and staying in Adelaide for a few weeks before moving upto Melbourne.

Alex.

Cool

Adam, haven’t quite got around to joining the club yet, I’ve been a little preoccupied with work and getting my car set up, but it is my intention to join later in the year. Though a road car (albeit modified) I will be trying to get some reasonable track time. Looking forward to meeting both yourself and Matt.

Cheers,

Would be good to get together. Maybe Pelican's "Melbourne Chapter" could get together for drinks one night. Or perhaps we could meet up at the next PCV track day or something. Matt will probably be running his '74, right?

Alex, Welcome to Melbourne (for when you get here!) I know you'll have a blast.
