Anyone heard of an "UnGo Box"?

So, during my current project where I'm installing speakers in the doors, much nicer (non-warped) door panels, non-warped and correctly colored door pockets, along with the burgandy door tops, knee pads, door pulls and door pocket cover flaps, I ended up removing the passenger side floor board.

Behind it, I found something interesting I found a controller for a "The UnGo Box". It has a couple switches on it (this controller is something like a stack of about 10-15 credit cards in size). The switch on the left looks to be a power switch and the one on the right looks to be a toggle switch between an option I and an option II.

I traced the wires in to the luggage compartment, where I found what must be the main brain of the alarm. There appear to be two main connectors with at least a dozen wires each in them, and one of them is disconnected.

There is a very large amount of red wiring just laying around up in the corner of the luggage compartment above the smuggler box.

There are a bunch of red leads attached to the positive terminal of the battery. I don't know if they are supposed to be there or if they are part of this alarm system.

There is an alarm siren/horn in the engine compartment. I'm really worried about what this could be doing to my car, who knows what it is tied in to.

So I'm not looking forward to figuring out what wires under my dash belong to this damn thing and what doesn't. I want it OUT of my car.

So if anyone has insight, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance!

Michael

The ungo box was the premier alarm / disable system in the late 70's and early 80's. Remove it carefully. Probably has some value to a period correct freak.

I think UNGO is Clarion's car alarm/security line. Does it have a model number?

I looked for a model number on it, but there isn't any kind of identifiable number that I can see.

I did a search and someone had an UnGo 2, but this is definitely prior to that.

This thing is OLD. I'll try to get some pictures.

Ungo boxes were typically wired into the ignition. If activated by the pin switches in the door, or by the mercury switch or a glass sensor, it will kill the ignition. I would have the entire system removed, if the Ungo fails you will not be able to start your car. If you are driving and the Ungo fails it will kill your ignition.

The Ungo!

I had one in my first car, back in the early 80s. It was the cool thing back then, I got mine from Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories, no less.

Here's what mine looked like, I believe this was the first generation of Ungo. (The picture isn't of my actual one, this is just a pic I found on the internet, but mine looked exactly the same).

I can't imagine this would be worth money to anyone these days, but who knows.

Vintage car alarm, The Ungo Box. Need Information

These were the hot ticket 30 yrs ago. Think there is even a reference in 'No Man's Land' -- the movie with Sheen stealing Porsches.

Damn, talk about a coincedence. The borla muffler that I bought used for my sc (haven't mounted it yet), is actually an old school one and apparently from Charlie sheen's old SC or Carrera. I can't remember which the guy at the dealership said.

Hehe.

Ungo Box is the same as many other after market alarm systems. I had one over 20 years ago. It had options such as door lock, ignition kill, glass sensor, motion sensor, etc just like other alarms. That's saying it could be just generic, without those options. If you don't mind the feature and wiring, and the car works fine, you can just find the fuse and pull it off.

I am 'can't imagine'ing the same thing. There was one in the SC I bought in Berkeley last year: slung it in the dumpster the day after I picked the Porsche up, when it went off in a car park while we were talking to a very nice lady in another 911.

Kiss of death for the period alarm.
