911 Manual Throttle Question

When starting my car, I sometimes need to press the gas peddle. The manual throttle doesn't seem to get enough fuel to the motor. Is it OK to start the car with the gas peddle or will it cause any damage?

Hi:

Hard to answer without knowing what year/model car you have and what is the current engine configuration.

CIS? MFI? Carbs? EFI?

Short answer, no. Now we need more info like Harry says. If they are carbs, start with a few pumps of the gas peddal then set the high idle rpm with the throttle. Other systems have there own start sequence, let us know what you have.

Actually, CIS systems of 1974 can be started by using either the throttle or the gas peddle, according to the manual that came with the car--zioo There is a procedure, though. Once started the gas pedal should keep revs above 2000 rpm until the engine warms sufficiently not to require pressure when idling close to stock recommendation or at stock idle when fully warmed up--zioo

Mike:

The hand throttle for my CIS does two things:

1-Opens the throttle slightly (typically to allow for higher idling revs while the car warms up but can be used as a limited "poor man's cruise control").
2-On start up, activates the startup injector to squirt a bit of extra fuel into the intake to richen up the mixture.

I am not sure if the second function is tied to your hand throttle (with MFI) but if it is, you need to use it to start your car.

My start up procedure goes like htis:

Pull Hand throtle all the way up;
Start Car;
Adjust hand throttle to a steady 1200 rpm
Wait a minute;
Drive off.

Once the temperature gauge starts to move, I can push the hand throtle down to the bottom.

using mine before it fires helps cold starts, especially with old plugs
