Dutch police inn 911

Did you know that our Dutch police used to run 911-s for the highway patrol team ? Not anymore unfortunately (well ....)

I came across a guy on the Dutch Porsche Forum who restored an ex-police 911 to its original specs.
He has special allowance from the ministery of transportation to drive this obvious (ex) police car.
High way patrol 911-s were always Targa's, the argument was that it allowed the police guy to stand up straight and manage traffic :-)
It actually started with 356-s in the 1960-s. Before 911-s were replaced by Mercs & Volvos, they also ran a couple of 964 convertibles.

Don't mind the language, just have a look at the pics here. It was the dream of many boys to join the police for this ...

356's were also used back in the day as special police cars

This brings back good memories. My family and I lived in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, for 2 years starting in 1985. Your post inspired my to look through some of my pictures from that time. We would see 911 police cars once in a while and I knew that I had taken a photo. I found it and here it is.

I was in Scheveningen in 1986 for the Beach Race and remember seeing them on the road. Mostly they were on the highways around Amsterdam from what I remember.

I think I remember some 944's also.

Somebody hit us in our car and I remember the police came in a Mercedes and he also had a broom in his trunk to clean up the accident mess. Never had seen that before.

These were on their way to the The Netherlands in '89.
