Great job on the valve covers! They look awesome...
|
Thanks David. I do like the way they turned out.
Tonight, I rebuilt the pedal cluster. Gathered all parts... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422755509.jpg Installed the new bronze bushings... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422755552.jpg Position the brake pedal in the bracket... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422755593.jpg Slide in the outer tube the brake pedal rotates on (don't bolt it on yet)... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422755732.jpg Slide in the shaft for the clutch pedal (don't forget the nylon spacer)... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422755835.jpg On goes the clutch pedal, with a new roll pin to hold it in place... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422755958.jpg Install the clutch pedal spring, then the bolt for the brake pedal shaft/tube... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422756038.jpg And finally, the accelerator gadget... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422756205.jpg Annnnd done!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422756233.jpg That was a lot easier than I thought. Glenn...that looks killer. Should have done that to mine. :)
|
It will be worth it Glenn!
|
Wow, this is really coming together nicely! Looks like you were ready for the project!! Keep up the good work and forward progress.
|
Glenn, once the pedal assembly has been overhauled, as you've done, how much lateral play/wiggle is there when you hold the base and try to move the pedals from side to side? Is it minimal compared to "before"? Thanks, John in CT?

There is virtually no wiggle in the pedals now. It wasn't bad before. My pedal rebuild was primarily to take care of rust and replace a broken spring. But there really isn't any play. |
I think the challenge is getting the pedal cluster remounted! Sequencing seems to be the key.
Good Job! Keith |
Looks great Glenn!
Did you use Allegheny as the Powder Coater? Who was the later? Thanks, |
Oops….
Who was the Plater? |
Thanks Dave. Yes I did use Allegheny. Jason was great to work with. If/when I have more stuff to powder coat, it will go back there without a second thought.
Jason suggested Mance Plating which is just a few mile from them. It is a small shop that is a bit hidden. When I told Jason Mance would take 5-6 weeks to finish the job, he was surprised that it would be that fast. So we will have to wait and see how long it takes and what type of quality. I will post pictures when the parts are done. Meanwhile, I am going to install the pedal cluster, e-brake and heater handles with new cables. Then I'll start rebuilding the ventilation system and repair/recover the dash. That should give Mance enough time to finish plating. |
If you feel like documenting that e-brake, heater handle, and cable install...that's my next project, and I'm not sure how straightforward it is...

Pedals are in and so is the E-brake handle.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425779196.jpg Tremelune, the e-brake handle install was pretty straight forward. New heater cables go in from the tunnel and the e-brake cable from the rear of the car. Connect the cables to the handles and then bolt the handle in. Then go to the rear of the car and connect the cables and adjust accordingly. I was done before I remembered to take pictures. Today, I removed dents from my oil lines. Pretty cool process. I learned about it in this thread: Fixed my Crushed Oil line for $5 and a beer. Before http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425778862.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425778912.jpg And After http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425778939.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1425778959.jpg Definitely not perfect but a heck of a lot better. Tomorrow, I am going to work on repairing rust on the front fenders. SmileWavy |
I picked up the parts from Mance Plating today. Not super happy with the appearance but I may have had unrealistic expectations.
The guy at Mance (his name slips my mind right now) said that the dichromate that makes it yellow is a coating on top of the cadmium plating and can be scratched off. He said some folks put a clear coat on it to protect the dichromate. Not sure if I buy that. Anyway, here are a couple pictures.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426286937.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426286955.jpg Some of these bits will be visible so I may see what I can to to improve their look. But ultimately I got them plated for the protection and wouldn't have expected them to stay pretty for long since this will be a daily driver. Next time I need plating done, I'll go back to East Liberty Electroplating for yellow zinc. |
Just read through all this, and all i can say is wow. You definetly are doing a great job with this car. Good luck!
|
Definitely a big effort so far.... I already subscribed and will follow til the end ;-)
|
Only had a few hours today but it feels like I made some progress.
Got the valves adjusted and pretty valve covers on. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426373588.jpg Painted the marks on the crankshaft pulley. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426373684.jpg Installed the fan housing and some sheet metal. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426373752.jpg |
Heater valves look like new...except for the spring
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426944311.jpg And they tried to match Talbot Yellow for the fan but didn't get close enough. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1426944388.jpg I think I will ask them to just do it over in the red. |
update
Making progress.
Fenders are finally yellow and even with all the curves, I only have a couple minor runs that I will sand down enough to live with. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432000161.jpg Did a bit of touch up paint on the left side where I had a real bad run and had to sand down until you could see primer. And guess what? After my success with the fenders I was overconfident and frickin' did it again. But I'm tired of painting and repainting so I have sanded the run very carefully and I think i can live with the results for a while. While I was painting, I sprayed a couple coats on the fan and it looks much better in the right shade of yellow. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432000666.jpg And I've begun the installation of the oil cooler duct. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432000484.jpg |
