And after some cleaning and removing the intermediate shaft cover. (The gasket looked like it might have been leaking a bit.)

I removed the gasket residual with a razor blade and wiped it down with mineral spirits. The on with the new gaskets, cover plates and new washers and nuts. I couldn't find a torque value for the intermediate shaft nuts so I used the same value at required for the cam chain covers, 7 ft/lbs. If this is incorrect, let me know.

I've got the garage heater running and the parts washer heating up while I write this. So today I will focus in cleaning the engine tin. I forgot to order the seals for the oil lines for the cam chain tensioner so I'll just clean those and set them aside until the next package arrives.

Progress is slow as time and money are in short supply. but I try to do a little every day.

I am slowly blasting all the paint off the engine tin to prepare it for powder coating. Can't decide if I want gloss black or matte black.

Thanks to the heater fan motor falling apart in my hands, I've decided to backdate the heater.

I am also looking at options to rebuild or replace the engine wiring harness.

With regard to the Hershey Swap meet.... I scored big last year (see post #108 of this thread) and I am already making my shopping list for this year. Unfortunately, there is no way it will be done by then. Given the slow progress I am making, my project plan, which keeps being adjusted, has it being completed in March 2014. But that will probably slip, too.

Noticed the insulation on my engine wiring harness was stiff and cracking. That means strip the harness from the engine and replace it. :rolleyes:

That's as far as I go. I will not cross the line into a engine rebuild.

On another note. I have decided to shift my interior plans a tad. I had originally planned to recover the stock seats and a set of Corbeau buckets I bought and just switch them out for AX/DE events. After experiencing stock sport seats, I think I can get by with just one set of sport seats.

So my stock seats and Corbeau seats are for sale (see post #17 for a picture) and I am in the market for a pair of manual sport seats that need to be reupholstered.

OP seems surprised. Was this rust something the OP didn't notice when he bought the car? The first photo looked like the door sill. Was this not visible when he bought it?

In general, should a Sc/3.2 newbie be worried about thinking he's buying a decent car, and then "finding out" that the car has rust issues and he's in way over his head (or needs to write a check for $10,000 to make this problem go away)

My previous 1980 911SC which spent its whole life in southern California and Arizona had some rust hiding in the usual spots. The later cars rust too...
