Anybody know a source for this t-shirt?
It came up for sale on ebay, but I couldn't being myself to pay more than $20 for somebody's used shirt. The artowrk, though, is cool. Has anyone seen it used elsewhere?

...an excellent example of how helpful the Pelican board is, and how much of a rip-off ebay can be...
Thanks.

It's too bad Mr. Foster didn't use an historically 'correct' car to depict such an important message ... like the '73 Daytona-winning #59 car!
Pretty good eBay scam selling a used shirt for new price++, though!

But there's also this. (Lousy image quality, unfortunately.)

But ... Mark Donohue actually had 1500+ hp available at the twist of his right wrist on the FUN KNOB adjusting the preload on the wastegate spring, and he used it only ONCE during the '73 CAN-AM racing season!

Which I guess is why Donahue was uniquely qualified to make the following quote, which they also put on a t-shirt:

Does any one think Pelican would sell a couple hundred nice silk screen T-shirts of the #59 car at '73 Daytona??? I would like to have 2..There may be possibilities here.

Build that theme around a version of this drawing and you would have a cool T.

Donohue developed a rather unique relationship with the factory racing engineers during the Can-Am project. The German tradition was for there to be a distinct 'pecking order' on different levels for engineers and race drivers ... the engineers were at the top, and drivers were at a lower level and were only expected to drive the cars and give feedback information during the development process, not make decisions or make design change recommendations. During his 'inituiation' to the 917-club at Weissach ... the engineers gave him a factory test mule that would be best described as an 'ill-mannered beast' ... or as some might say: "out of sorts' ... so, he took is out and brought it right back in after a couple of laps, and started rattling off a list changes in camber, caster, toe angles, and spring rates at both ends! The engineers were a bit irritated, and suggested that he see what he could do with the car just as it was ... compared to the factory test driver! He insisted that the changes be made, and told them of his engineering qualifications. His requested changes were made, and he took the car out and immediately broke the track record for the car, and so the factory engineers realized that they were dealing with one of the very rare combinations of excellent race driver/development/design engineers that comprised a short list in the company of Bruce McLaren, Dan Gurney, and Niki Lauda!
In the early development stages of the 917-10 engine, Donohue wasn't prone to stroke the engine development engineer, Herr Flegl, or praise the engine very much, because it had what could be best described as ON-OFF switch characteristics. Over a period of weeks of incremental improvements in driveability and flexibility improvements, he always commented that it needed MORE POWER! Herr Flegl finally asked him just how much power did he need? Donohue's response was the above quote!!! All of the above 'secrets' about Donohue and all of the cars he was involved with in his career are detailed in the Bentley revised and updated version of The Unfair Advantage!
