Having problems installing one of my new h4s..
Hey all,
so, I had a great post written when my iPhone took a crap and now I have to thumb thi all All over again. Essentially, even thoughh one of my new euro style h4s mounts and fit easily (passenger side), I am at a loss as to how to get the other one to catch on that damn lip at the top. No matter what i've tried, it just slips off. I've tried installing the one that I was successful with on to the problem side, but no luck. I've tried changing the angle of the lip with needle nose pliars, as I noticed that the side that works has a lip that runs in line with the slope of the edge of the headlight bucket. The drivers side is a bit more vertical. But when I put it at the angle of the other one, it still didn't work. So I really don't know what to do to solve this problem. Oh and here's another issue... The shop that took care of this car for my father for several years didn't even bother installing the correct 6 o'clock screw. The one he used when he installed the round h4s in 2001 ended up being stripped. It's basically too small to fit securely. So, I have a couple screws that are machine thread/fine threaded and I think the correct size, as when I screw one in, it seems secure, but it seems that they have worn out initial threads, so I need to find a replacement screw. So, does anyone know the screw type that I should ask for at the hardware store? Hopefully home depot or another hardware shop would have a compatible one that I could substitute with. Anyway, any help would be fantastic. I've been wanting to do this upgrade for a long long time, and I'm just so f'ing frustrated. Thanks in advance. Michael |

First, you need the correct screw in there.
You didn't say what year your car is, but our host shows (not sure if this is what you need): 911-631-132-00-M260- Euro Headlight Screw, Outer (1974-86) If the threads are truly buggered, you could try drilling out the threads on the fender, then soldering the proper nut to accept the fine threaded screw. But I think this would be a last resort. And if the solder should break off, your headlight would fall out - which wouldn't be good @ 100 mph. I've had trouble getting my lights to seat against the thick rubber gasket. Once they are squashed down some by the chrome trim rings they seem to seat OK. But having the correct screw is key.

+1 on Mightly's comment. you need this
![]() And this for screwing the outer rim.. (doh! ) ![]() Other pointers, make sure the 2-3" clips that hold headlight in the frame bowl are not obstructing the top lip, if they are just slide them to the left and right. |

You might get it to fit tighter by just getting the large screw started, then slip the headlight over the top lip. Hold the top of the assembly down and then finish installing the large screw. Worked for me.
But then this might be the key: Also (and maybe try this first) make sure the 6 o'clock screw hole bracket is bent at the same angle as the passenger side. It sounds like that little bracket might be bent (upwards?) just enough to keep you from getting the "fit" between top and bottom, in otherwords, the distance from the upper lip to the screw hole at 6 o'clock might be off just enough to as you say, drive you (*&(*&^ crazy. If that distance is just a hair short, you won't get the "fit" on the driver's side. ![]() |

the other day, it took four men, numerous tries, kicking and cursing to get the thing back on. That's how it is. I have some HID conversion project in mind, but....nah....H4 just works fine and am not touching the f'ing thing if at all possible.
