911 Turbo vs. Audi R8 on SPEED

Just watched "Battle of the Supercars" on Speed last night, featuring a tuned 911 Turbo vs. a tuned Audi R8, driven by Paul Tracy and Tanner Faust respectively...

You can guess the outcome... awesome show.

Cheers

d.

I myself have a tough time watching that show. Since I DVR it I can fast forward thru the (IMHO) insufferable dialogue and get to the couple minutes of actual driving. That 997TT was mighty impressive - indeed - Wow! While in contrast the R8 was not sorted out at all so it was hardly a fair let alone entertaining fight. Was a lot like the GT40 vs. Gallardo episode. Perhaps they should pit the GT40 vs. the 997TT and the Lambo vs. Audi.

I've always been a fan of PT (although he is one arrogant SOB) and the pure malicious joy he took in beating Tanner Faust's smug azz was a thing of beauty.

I recently watched a show that featured how they build both the R8 and the 911.

What stuck out for me is that the Audi engine is exported to Turkey or some other country to be built. The 911 engine is built in Germany.

Is it me or is obvious that Paul Tracey is insanely jealous of Faust? Who is the lumberjack that host this show? What has Tanner Faust done other then be in the 2 3 second clips that they always show when they introduce them? Why do I keep watching this show?

I hate Paul Tracy. Tanner Faust is a little more bearable but still his drifting is not my thing. And who is this other host?

I do watch the show, though, when they had the Sharkwerks GT3RS beat the Ferrari F430. And the Turbo beat the turbo R8. I was a little disappointed that the carbon Lambo blew up- that is Paul Tracy for you. He could not even figure out the launch control in the BMW M3. Too bad the Turbo lost to the GTR at Willow Springs.

What pis*ed me off was the last of four tests where the Porsche passed the R8. That was staged.

I did like the show but the R8 was not the car to mate with the Porsche.

I know the GTR has its issues, but it "owned" the 911 turbo and it wasn't even that close. At less then half the price, If I owned a 911 turbo , I would hide if I saw one on the street.

Tuner cars are a mixed bag, preventing a true comparison between the car brands.

I think the producers encourage Foust and Tracy to ham it up for audience giggles, probably to excess, and those long past puberty suffer from that. I think their target viewers are in the age group 8-23. The host, Reherman, is a little over the top, but I wouldn't want to tell him that in person. One word describes his physique, gladiator-type, and I wasn't too far off after a quick search (see the TV show link below).

Though not a Foust fan, he is an accomplished driver, racer and no dummy either.

Dunno but according to my wife he has a "bullet-head".

And wtf is up with the weird little hair-lump on the front of his cranium??

The aluminum Audi uses is molded into blocks, then rolled out and spooled up to 22,000 lbs. roll's right here in America, Idaho if I'm not mistaken. Then it's shipped to Germany to construct the frame.

I can't watch shows with douche-bags driving exotic cars.

If it weren't for the cars,, the bad producing would send me up to the roof.

And for that, I have a love affair going with my mute button.

Dear tele God's, please bring back Victory by Design with Alain De Cadenet!!!

Agree on the Victory by Design. I met DeCadenet for a second, in line at security at Heathrow in 2007. Asked him about the delay in the V by D dvd retail release that had been shown on Speed Channel in 2006-ish. When he started talking his gestures and animation were just as pronounced as when on tv. It was cool.

FWIW he said that they were wrestling with releasing them in high definition vs standard definition.

Yes, I have Porsche and Ferrari and was interested in Jaguar and Lotus. I saw them all- even Ford at a booth at the Laguna Seca ALMS race this year. They do exist, but I have not been able to order them online.
