Modified PMO water shields

Inspired by old photos of rain shields used in factory race cars. Oval cut-outs on each side of the cover. This is a 911 speedster so it won't be driven on rainy days. Should get some better flow to the carbs too.

What year is that car? Looks like a 71 or older oil tank.

Very nicely done. What did you use to cut an oval so cleanly?

With all due respect to your desire to mimic the factory race cars, if you only drive it on nice days/no rain, why not get the flat-top air cleaner housings? These are the same shape as the base plates but without all the holes for air entry to the throttle bodies, vents and air correctors.

I used a 1.5 inch hole saw on each end and then a dremel with cutting disk to make the cuts that connect the two holes.

Not really trying to mimic a factory race car, just inspired by them. I don't like the look of the flat-top type K&N housings as they look two "VW" and most of the ones available are CNC machined aluminum - not my style.

I like it, would you mind posting a pic of your car, is it a Factory Speedster?

Agreed the K&N housings with raised letters and stripes are not for everyone. I have a set of plain steel flat lids and they look ok I guess. But you're right that the umbrella-like shields have a more functional or muscular look than the uniform ovals created by the flat tops.

Ideally i'd like something better than the K&N filters but it seems the only other option is the ITG foam filters, which don't look right IMO. I'm sure they perform great. Just not quite the right look for our older cars. Maybe its the red color?

Again, nice job. The ovals look precision cut/stamped and the black crinkle paint gives them that purposeful means-business racy look.
