Vin Id on early 911's

Can someone shed some light on determining the proper year of my car. I went to the 911specs.com site and looked up my vin number. While the vin 11870248 shows it as a 68 the number falls within the 1967 production year chassis numbers. It also shows they made 521 with all of them having the 118 sequence. What was Porsches system back them and what is the proper year of my car. I have the same challenges with another car in which the vin is a 9110111003 number indicating a 1970 car but it falls with in the sites 1969 model year cars??? Thanks

I checked the site you posted and the chart appears to be incorrect. 1967 cars did not use the "11X..." VIN format--that began with the 1968 model year. 1968 model year cars all began with 118, followed by the digit for the body type (7 indicates L targa), followed by the four digit sequence numbers. The VIN you posted is for a 1968 model year 911. The same is true for the 1970 model year--the VIN shows a 1970 T targa, 1003rd built.

VIN 11870248 is for a 1968 911T (RoW) Targa.
The ‘68T production started in early ’68 and not August ’67 like all the other ’68 models.

Your 11870428 is the 428th out of 521 built.

VIN 9110111003 is a 1970 911T Targa
It is the 1003th out of 2545 built.

Many unofficial sites mistake year of manufacture for Model Year.
Porsche Model Year starts with production just after the factory closes for August vacation.
The ’68 Model year starts August ’67 and ends July ’68.

is not easy to use.
