Introduction....w/ Pics!

Just a quick note to introduce myself. I've recenty aquired a 1974 911 w/ Webers. After many years of VW's in my youth it's my first 911 and I am just loving it. I've put 1,000 miles on it in the first 3 weeks of ownership, going absolutely nowhere

I am located in Southern New Jersey, right near the Tacony-Palmyra bridge, joined the local PCA and drove down to NJ Motorsports Park on Friday to watch a little of the DE day there. It was way cool and I'm looking forward to getting out there a little bit next season once I get the car a bit more sorted maintenence wise and fix a few issues that I've already posted questions about. I'm always looking for more experienced help, so if you are nearby and wouldn't mind spending a few minutes helping out a newbie, I would greatly appreciate it!

Here are a couple of pics for your enjoyement...

Welcome! That looks like a really nice car. RTR Region will be at the track this weekend, so if you are bored, comeon down and meet some like-minded folks.

RTR will be at Thunderbolt on October 22-24th. We will be running on Sunday, so if the weather is nice, you will want to stop on by.

congrats - 1974 is a great sleeper year; you can search on "1974" to get more info and also read Frere's 911 book for even more.

Webers are great - do you have SSIs also?

And do you have the stock CIS cams & pistons or have those been hot rodded?

this can keep you out of trouble for some time:

Congrats, that's a great looking car! I agree with rwebb, '74 is a great year, one that isn't fully appreciated by many.

Looks like the car has managed to remain fairly original and unmolested, which is a great thing, and pretty rare. Love the chrome trim and little chrome mirror.

Someone has been playing around with the electrical system a little bit. There is an MSD that is a very strange install (according to the write-up on this site and 101 book) that I am going to try and undo, once I figure out what is going on with the little bit if an electrical mess in the engine bay. I am waiting on delivery of a set of service manual so that I have some reference material to help me.

Here are some engine bay pics. All work here done by PO. It works...

I am also trouble shooting an intermittant alternator light that glows sometimes but rarely goes full brightness. I'm working my way around to clean some grounding points, just haven't had a chance to get the car up on stands and get underneath yet, isn't there one on the trans? In any case, it works now, but I would like to clean the wiring up a bit. Again, anyone local who wants to lend an extra brain...please do.

yes, the cable on the trans is crucial for grounding

new ones are cheap

clean up the base connections well with a medium strong acid (you can search on acetic) & use dielectric grease

I hear some VW people use CLR to clean up electrical contacts.

Wow, what a beautiful car. Word of warning: document all the wiring before you start changing anything. This way if it won't start after you make it wired correctly, you can at least put it back so that it will run until you figure out what else they changed.
