Have no heat

I have no heat. The heater flappers are open but my 1988 911 Targa does not have the levers by the brake handle. The dial on the console between the seats does nothing when turned. All fuses seem to be intact. Can anyone help ?

If you're flappers are open, THAT's why you have no heat. It's going to the atmosphere.

I would suggest starting the diagnosis by turning the dial to 9 and then verifying that the flappers are closed, which will allow heat to get up into the cabin. The cables get mucked up from road grime and generally aging.

Does your engine compartment blower run? If not, you will not feel much "force" when the heated air arrives.

Check out these threads on the autoheat system. There are plenty of parts that can fail.

Welcome to Pelican. You should post a pic or 2 of your car. We like pictures.

After trying what Wayne says, you might want to undo the small bolt that holds the heater cable to the flapper box. Then manually try and open and close it. Sometimes they just corrode and the cable cannot budge it. Also have a look at the cable housing ends. These also corrode and allow the cable housing to move around as the cable moves in and out (therefore stopping it opening/closing the flapper box valve).

If all this checks out OK then like the problem is at the console.
