Windshield wipers

almost winter and time to fix annoying things on my 88 carrera.
The windshield wipers do not go home when you shut them off.
Is that as simple as a relay or worse.
Next problem is a fan that doesn't shut off. It runs on low.. I installed a battery shut off so the battery is not drained. The motor seems to be run by the defroster switch between the seats..

Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Tom

Your wipers are controlled throught the wiper stalk on the steering column.

Do a search on this subject.

Someone posted a simple fix not too long ago.

If not the steering column, the wiper relay which is located
behind the dash, near the two left gauges.

Good luck,

Gerry

your windshield wiper stalk contacts are bent and / or dirty. You can do a search on this site and you will find pictures and instructions on how to repair your existing stalk...or you can spend the $100 to replace it with a new one.

Your fan problem sounds like the blower motor in your engine compartment doesn't completely shut off. This is a fairly commom problem in which lots of threads also exist, with a proper search.

Both are minor, commom issues. I'm sure there will be much more help from a lot of people here that have way more experience than myself.

I'm pretty sure this is of no use, but my fan is run by the slide controls on the dash. Only the amount of heat is controlled by the levers between the seats.
Mine is a 75. I see yours is an 88, but just throwing it out there.

Wipers stopping but not returning to the park position when turned off will be the result of the failure of the switch escapement/mechanism that's a part of the wiper motor assembly.

The fresh air blower is located behind the dash in the boot.

Not to hijack your thread but my 1988 3.2 carrera wipers do not actuate at all in the morning and slowly comes to life and moves normally after a few minutes. So is this a sign the wiper switch needs replacement with new one or is it the contacts and ground points. I don't think the wiper motor needs to be replaced as it either works or don't, right? The car has 152,000 miles on the original wiper switch.

My experience with electric motors is, if they are slow to start they are quick to quit.
Thanks
Tom
