Questions to ask when buying an engine block?

I'm considering an engine block purchase and was wondering what questions I should ask and what pitfalls to look out for. Did a search and couldn't find much. Considering aluminum 3.0 blocks at this point. Thanks.

It is an engine "case" which comes in two halves that bolt together. Have someone inspect them if you are unsure of their condition.
