Bosch 231.169.011 RS Distributor
Team,
Our late Warren Hill said in an old tech post, " the 1973 RS 2.7 engines used Bosch 231.169.011 -- 7300 rpm rev limiter dist". I bought a 011 Bosch distributor last month on our 911 classified fourm. It was rebuild by "Milt" and sold to another pelican about two (2) years ago (as I was told). I recently obtained it for my rebuild. I am now looking for that Milt to reply and give me the background on the rebuilt distributor. What advanced curve does it have...or is it possible to look to see inside. There is a part with 3 #'s starting with a 5. I will give it to AT Speed, my engine builder and want to provide the data. Anyone know how to read a distributor-- please chime in. Vr,

Scott,
Take the distributor to someone with an old ‘Sun Electric’ distributor machine. They can run the distributor through the rpm range and measure the advance. If you intend to use vacuum advance/retard, that can be measured also. You can compare the results to the advance vs. rpm graphs in the Factory Workshop Manuals. I would take it with fresh lube and new points. In the process, you can ‘run-in’ the distributor so it will be close to plug-in-&-run (except always check/set the total advance at 6000 rpm with a timing light). Best, Grady

Grady,
Thank you so much for your response. I will start to look for someone or a shop that can perform this service. Here is a pic of the distributor that I bought. Vr Scott ![]()
