Oil Pressure Switch
Can anyone out there who owns a 70 to 73 911 take a pic of where their Oil Pressure Switch is and post for me please?
I see the sender with the bigger canister on top, but the actual switch for the warning light may be missing I believe. I switched over from MFI to carbs after doing some engine upgrades, and I don't think the guy who did the initial work put a new switch back in. I ended up having to take over, and I am no mechanic so that should give you an idea of how bad the first guy was! I looked up the switch in the part listings online and even from those pics I'm still not exactly sure where it should go. Thanks for your help! |

Thanks! From both those links I was able to find the wire that needs to be attached to the switch for the idiot light, but I'm still not sure where the switch itself is supposed to go?

leadrsa729,
A ’65-’73 with ‘S’ instruments didn’t originally have a low oil pressure warning light switch or light. You can install a switch on the engine. There is a VDO sender that both operates the pressure gauge and has an integral switch. There is an extra wire (green, no tracer) available. This is for a Sportomatic over-temperature warning light but can be used for the low oil pressure warning light. Starting with the ’73.5 911T, the pressure sending unit was moved to the oil hose for the right cam. This is because it is too tall to fit under the CIS. (The smaller oil pressure switch stayed in the original location by the breather for non-S-instrument cars.) Starting in ’74, the sender was at the cam hose and the switch by the breather. More difficult is the instrument. There is not provision for an additional light for low oil pressure warning on <-’73. Starting in ’74, the combination instrument has provision for a low oil warning light. This later instrument can be configured to appear as ’70-’73 and include the light. 1974 combination instrument ![]() © 1974 Dr. ing. h.c.F. Porsche A.G. Winter, I need to read your thread. Best, Grady

Thanks, Grady. Yeah, I still haven't figured out what's up with my pressure gauge (wrong sender, not connected sender, wrong gauge?) I do know that the oil pressure light does come on, and then will go off once car is up and running. It kinda flickers at idle (just at first), acting like it's sensing pressure and then, of course, when I hit the gas, all is good.
Issue described here: Oil Pressure Sender - need help! Sorry to hijack the thread! Cheers,
